MFP will only staple top left of page even when right is selected, engineer says ....

Last year we had a new copier / printer installed Kyocera TASKalfa 6052ci KX

 

Last week it stopped stapling on the top right and will only staple on the top left, even when right has been selected. Over the phone the engineer asked us to try stapling from the machine itself and that did work, so he said its not really his problem and said I need to look at the drivers.

 

When it was installed the engineer had a tough time getting it up and running and said that if we can stick with the drivers we have it would be better then updating, which might cause us more issues. I do not want to update the drivers if its not needed as it might just make things worse.

 

We have tried printing from both Windows 7 and Windows 10 computers and both have the same issue.

 

Has anyone had an issue like this? Will it probably be the drivers?

Try installing the new drivers on a computer and connect to the printer directly compared o going via the print server

I am not back at the school until next week and will try drivers then.

 

Another oddity just reported was that if they create a new blank work doc the printer only gives the option of top left staple or bottom left, it does not even list right as an option.

 

Is it possible for printer settings to be embed in a document? as the document which gives right or left staple choices was not created by the school.

Yes, it is possible for settings to be saved with documents... Pretty sure there's an option for it somewhere.

 

We have the Task Alfa at one of the sites and it does act weird. there are some combinations of settings you expect it to be able to and it can't - like a top corner staple and a tri-fold, can't do it.

Our old Kyocera Photocopiers used to do the same thing, we also used to get weird things with kyocera printers once installed onto print server. Some wouldn't print multiple copies, some if you told it to print page 3-4 would either print the whole document or just not bother. We have since moved to Konica Minolta photocopiers and have had no issues, and most of the printers have been replaced by HP and all are behaving. I think the Kyocera drivers when used with a print server are just not up to the task.
