Microsoft Office 2019 kills off OneNote desktop app in favor of Windows 10 version

The note taking app currently has a desktop version included in Office 2016, and a separate Universal Windows App for Windows 10. Microsoft is replacing the desktop version of OneNote with the Windows 10 version in Office 2019, along with making the entire Office 2019 standalone suite only work on Windows 10.

I've not used the Windows 10 version from the Store but I hope it's not as shocking as some of the Microsoft apps that are on there.

I guess this will mean we cant deploy the learning tools add on anymore. How annoying.

You will most likely have to deploy them from the store in the future, which sounds so fun...

I know how that feels. Whenever I post anything I always search to see if @DaveP has beat me to it.

We're gradually moving more and more away from Microsoft Office, so it looks like it's Google Keep for us over OneNote. I'm yet to see any teachers who even know what OneNote even is!

I love Google Keep, it's so handy and light weight. I know that OneNote has a lot more features but if it's just for Notes like the name implies then Keep is just that.

Windows 10 OneNote gained a number of missing features recently, and is about to surpass the Win32 version’s learning tools (which are now to be built in).

I just hope the Mac version gets the same amount of love. I miss being able to pull my to do items from various pages in my ‘day book’ into a single list.

 

I’ve been a user since 2003, and teachers who find it for themselves love it. We don’t mandate any particular classroom learning technology, and so some teachers use it over the google tools by choice.
