[sims] Changing surname output in a report

I wondered if anyone knew of a way to change the field output in reports. In SIMS, all our surname fields are set to uppercase. I've been asked if I can generate a report which shows student surnames as Smith instead of SMITH? Is there a way to set this up in the report or do we need to manipulate in Excel afterwards?

You can change the capitalisation of the field in the database through the SIMS front end, but you can't get different capitalisation out the reporting engine from what is in the database.

Never understood why some schools insist on having the surname capitalised in SIMS...

Just in case you didn't know, the formula's really simple in Excel: just use =PROPER(). If it's a report that's going to be run a lot, you could write a Macro to be included in the Report Template, but it's a bit of a faff.

=PROPER() won't work for names such as McDonald either.
