I can tell you why Capita think the uptake of Android Teacher app was poor, its because when we called in we were told it had not been created and they would contact us when it was, then I find out it had been created but due to poor take up they are dropping it.

Nearly all my schools are starting to pick Android or Chromebooks, seems very odd that they will not support Android.

We took up Parent App to replace the (some would say..) hateful SLG. It has been well received by our parents, and it also works in a browser. We tested on everything including Chrome app on iPads and Android devices, and all achieved what our parents needed. Our main focus was publishing termly reports as PDF, and it is popular. We never considered roll out to students, although it will come - local decisions really, because students are not allowed phones in school, hence it’s not been rolled out.

We also mail reports via InTouch.

We trialled Teacher app, but they rarely used it.

I'd be interested in hearing about the sign in procedure from schools who have started using the SIMS Parent App. As I understand it, parents need a Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft or a Google account to sign in, although I can't find any mention of that on Capita's brochure site, so correct me if I am wrong. How have your parents reacted to having to sign up with an American company to see data on their own children attending a UK school? Did you do any research before moving to it to see what parents reactions would be?

I trust Facebook \ Twitter \ Microsoft \ Google with the authentication more then Capita with your data.

We're just in the stages of setting it up and testing. There is the option for "other email" as well as the above. Well that appeared on a member of staffs iPhone

Manual is here:

There hasn't been a problem.....parents seem very happy to use a social media site to sign up with...no complaints so far. The main issue is the information that they see.......but that's a SIMS logging issue!

Yes that's the login page. I'm taking the word of our office admin who's quite tech savvy. Can't find any info supporting that so I presume she was seeing things!

We already use the Teacher app here, and that seems to be barely developed either, still missing quite a lot of features. We're thinking about the Parent app, but even our staff use android a lot on personal devices.

The Parent App is fully supported on Android though.....
