Dos_Box Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Well, this makes depressing reading - Preston ranked in the UK cities to see the most rain | Blog Preston And we don't get a tenth of the snow the rest of you do! It's so unfair 3
elsiegee40 Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 More importantly Lancaster is second! It’s not actually the wettest place in the country to my surprise. I was there 3 years and so was my daughter. It rained. A LOT. [emoji23] 1
sparkeh Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Is that the reason for the linked story half way down: Preston is one of the most miserable places in the UK | Blog Preston

elsiegee40 Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 (edited) When you're from this neck of the woods we prefer the phrase 'It doesn't rain all the time...'. Mum’s Welsh... she says the same [emoji23] She looked at the article just now and said it was the only league where she was pleased to see Cardiff beat Swansea [emoji3] It didn’t rain all the time in Lancaster... just every day for the entire first term. And as you say, you end up with darn good waterproofs... there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing! Daughter’s end of finals barbecue was held despite the rain. That’s what gazebos and waterproofs are for (they were all Geographers and Environmental Scientists so the gear was essential) Edited March 21, 2018 by elsiegee40
Dos_Box Posted March 21, 2018 Author Posted March 21, 2018 It's the fact we have mountains on three sides and we get the westerlies straight off the Irish Sea/Atlantic. These same mountains also shelter us from the snow.
hardtailstar Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Nearest place to me is Canterbury at 45th. Which is quite funny as it's a local joke round here that Canterbury has is own climate as quite often it's raining on the center on Canterbury and no where else within a 30 mile radius! I own a lot of Gore-Tex too. Good stuff it is. Especially in the hills.
sted Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 of course bradford and leeds have the same rainfall (5th) theres no real boundary between them you literally just drive along a main road and see a sign that your in one or the other lol https://goo.gl/maps/sSjLZmeVNoq 1

arwen Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Nothing wrong with some rain, it's why our grass is lovely and green, our trees are full and bush and our cattle and sheep are well fed! Without the rain our rivers and loch's would be calmer and ultimately, our whisky wouldn't taste so good:D
Domino Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 You don't own Gore-Tex, you liar. This lot do: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._L._Gore_and_Associates 3
StevieM Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 You don't own Gore-Tex, you liar. This lot do: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._L._Gore_and_Associates Hahaha! I thought @Dos_Box had gone all Victor Kiam on us! 'I liked it so much, I bought the company!' 2
kearton Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Gore-Tex? Nah... You want a Swanndri! http://m.swanndri.co.nz/bushshirts/SSD0103/Swanndri-Men's-Original-Wool-Bushshirt-with-Lace-up-front.html
TwistedHelixis Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Where I live we get 25% less rain then anywhere else apparently, YAY for Eastbourne. We also get more tourists than anywhere else.
SpuffMonkey Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 You should move down to Southport - it hardly ever rains there! At least that's what my Mum tells me
TTG_Alice Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Surely Manchester is the rainiest city up North. However it's also looking grim and grey in Yorkshire at the moment
hardtailstar Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Raining today in my part of Kent, Wore my Gore-Tex today
buzzard Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Thats why Goodwin Bros on Orchard Street in Preston had the "We shall have rain" painted on the outside of the building, One reason I moved!
