WDS stopped working

Our WDS service has been working fine until recently. We only have one server which runs DNS, DHCP, AD and our WDS. I notice the service had stopped and when I went to restart it again it gave me the following error message via the Event Viewer.

 

An error occurred while trying to initialize provider WdsImgSrv from C:\Windows\system32\WdsImgSrv.dll. Windows Deployment Services server will be shutdown.

 

Error Information: 0xC1020201

 

I have checked the WDS properties settings an everything looks as it should do. When I try to start the service directly from WDS I get the error message 'The server did not reply in a timely manor'

 

When I boot a laptop to WDS I get an IP address on the laptop and then an error message 'PXE-E55 ProxyDHCP service did not reply on port 4011'

 

Can any body help as I have 20 new staff laptops that need capturing and deploying.

i assume youve tried rebooting the server?

try disabling the dhcp service and see if it starts if so check the options in wds are set for running on a dhcp server

Had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago and rebooting the server sorted it out, but that's probably not an easy option for you! (Ours was a VM that just handles WDS + KMS etc, so wasn't a biggie to take it down for a few minutes).

I rebooted first thing this morning and no change. I have checked my DHCP settings in WDS and both boxes are ticked. I have also un-installed and re-installed WDS and I still get the same problem.

what username/password is the service set to use maybe yo changed a password and it cant start? clutching at straws here though

As far as i'm aware there is no username or password set to the service. I have logged on using a different login and that didn't work.

What is the event ID in the logs?

Oh hang on, are PXE and DHCP roles on the same server?

 

If so you need to set 3 DHCP options: 60 = PXEClient, 66 = your PXE server, 67 = your bootfile name

Yes PXE and DHCP are on the same server and I have my settings in DHCP set to 60 = PXEClient, 66 = your PXE server, 67 = your bootfile name.

Everything was working fine so I know my settings should be ok. I have checked again just to be on the safe side.

I've had this before, i ended up removing and reinstalling the role.

I resolved the issue and yes I had to reinstall it. Thanks for everyone's help.
