  1. I resolved the issue and yes I had to reinstall it. Thanks for everyone's help.
  2. Yes PXE and DHCP are on the same server and I have my settings in DHCP set to 60 = PXEClient, 66 = your PXE server, 67 = your bootfile name. Everything was working fine so I know my settings should be ok. I have checked again just to be on the safe side.
  3. The Event ID is 513
  4. As far as i'm aware there is no username or password set to the service. I have logged on using a different login and that didn't work.
  5. Thanks for your quick replies. I rebooted first thing this morning and no change. I have checked my DHCP settings in WDS and both boxes are ticked. I have also un-installed and re-installed WDS and I still get the same problem.
  6. Hi Our WDS service has been working fine until recently. We only have one server which runs DNS, DHCP, AD and our WDS. I notice the service had stopped and when I went to restart it again it gave me the following error message via the Event Viewer. An error occurred while trying to initialize provider WdsImgSrv from C:\Windows\system32\WdsImgSrv.dll. Windows Deployment Services server will be shutdown. Error Information: 0xC1020201 I have checked the WDS properties settings an everything looks as it should do. When I try to start the service directly from WDS I get the error message 'The server did not reply in a timely manor' When I boot a laptop to WDS I get an IP address on the laptop and then an error message 'PXE-E55 ProxyDHCP service did not reply on port 4011' Can any body help as I have 20 new staff laptops that need capturing and deploying. Thanks Tony
  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I usually use Sysprep to create my image and then PXE boot and capture that image. Because I work in primary schools and the volume of computers aren't that great I have never felt the need to use MDT. So Mrwoberts I would be grateful if you could explain the procedure of installing a custom WIM from USB, broken or other wise. Lol Thanks
  8. I'm not sure I want to buy a load of USB to Ethernet adaptors if they might not boot to PXE. MrWoberts, you make it sound so easy, unfortunately out of the 5 steps you have suggested Making a cuppa is the only task I could just about manage. Thanks for the suggestion though
  9. Thanks for the quick reply and link. Do you know if all of these adapters use the same drivers? Does WDS automatically pick up the driver or do you have to add it? On Ebay you can pick them up for £1.50, has anyone dare use these? Thanks
  10. I've just been told that my primary school has ordered 60 No Acer Aspire Switch 12 Alpha, SA5-271P tablets with detachable keyboard. After a bit of research it appears that they have no Ethernet socket just wireless. This is a bit of a problem as we normally use WDS to create and deploy images and i'm certain that WDS wont deploy over wireless. If that is the case does anyone know of a third party software that will enable me to create an image an deploy it to the remaining 59 tablets? Thanks
  11. I normally use WDS to install and re-image my primary school PC's on our Server 2012. However I am tired of trying to find the right driver to actually boot a PC before installing an image. We have just taken delivery of 64 HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF and surprise surprise they wont PXE boot. I have tried lots of WINPE drivers for the Intel 82579LM card with no joy and as HP are unwilling to help I'am forced to look for an alternative. So the question is what's the best software to use?
  12. Hi jon Thanks for the reply, everything looks ok. I have noticed in Event viewer in the GroupPloicy section that I have an error 'Manual processing of policy failed for computer domain\conmputername. Event ID 7004.
  13. Hi I'm pulling my hair out with this one!! I have a Server 2008 x64 Enterprise SP2 and Win7 x86 clients, things have been working fine until recently. Logging on to any PC I found that my GPO's didn't apply, I performed a gpupdate/force I then generated a GPReport which came up with the following error. Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below. Access is denied. Note: Due to the GP Core failure, none of the other Group Policy components processed their policy. Consequently, status information for the other components is not available. I then ran rsop.msc on the affected pc and I have a red cross on the 'Computer Configuration' and the 'User Configuration' As any one got any suggestions before I lose all my hair? Thanks Tony

  15. Hi Two schools I look after have recently had the same problem with Pubisher 2007. When a user opens up Publisher it opens the recovered file from all the users that have used Publisher on that pc. If you close them all down individually and then re-open publisher everything works as normal. I could understand if this was on one or two pc's but it's on 65 spanning two seperate schools. Any body come acoss this problem and have a simple fix? Thanks Tony
  16. Thanks for the advice, I never really thought about building a server before. I've built PC's so it shouldn't be any problem
  17. I know our budget is low, but that's because we have no cash, we might be able to push for 3k but certainly no more. As ever I'm fighting against the Head and Governors who don't understand the importance of a server and what it can do for them. I understand about the refurb but I'm not sure the Head will go for that but if that's the only option. I'm having a meeting with the Head on Wednesday to discuss the options.
  18. Hi Dave, not sure about refurb if I'm honest.
  19. The school only have one server so it does everything. DHCP,DNS, AD\Users, Printer and File server and Group Policies. The budget is around 1k to 2K
  20. Finally been given the go ahead to get a new server for the primary school I work in and was just wondering what is the best make\ config to go for. The school has about 400 users. Our current server is a HP Proliant which I've not been impressed with as we have had two hard drive failures. One was replaced under warranty the other we had to pay for. Any recommendations gratefully received.
  21. Anyone know how to get the Holiday function working on our single display? We can turn it off and on on a daily basis but not at the weekend. The Holiday function in the MDC is greyed out, is this what we need to get the screen to not turn on over the weekend? Thanks
  22. Hi The primary school I have a problem with are using Server 2008 r2 with Win 7 clients. I've created a Mandatory profile using the Guest account from a computer not on the domain and arrange the desktop icons as required. I then copied the Guest account to the shared folder on the server with full rights for 'authenticated user' and I edited the ntuser.dat with the same permissions. My next step was to change the ntuser to . man and the paste the path into the users Profile Path tab. When I log on I get my desktop as i'd arranged but I also get the icons that where in the Public desktop. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Tony
  23. I've found the fix for the above problem via Microsoft. After appling the fix I re-ran dcdiag again and got the following error message:- rting test: SystemLog An error event occurred. EventID: 0x40000004 Time Generated: 08/21/2012 14:08:49 Event String: The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server ks2s-10$. The target name used was cifs/KS2S-10. T his indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server princip al name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is regi stered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a differ ent password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Pl ease ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qu alified, and the target domain (GLENFIELD.LOCAL) is different from the client domain (GLENFIELD.LOCAL), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server. ......................... 25. I have just tried it and it failed what does it do? Nslookup reolves ok. I have tried logging onto a shared resource on the effected pc and it wont recognise the name but will connect if I enter the ip address, so it must be DNS not resolving the name.
