Live streaming - help please

Hello all.

 

I'm in a primary school - we are having some eggs delivered this week for a 'hatching' project. When I last did this, I set up a webcam so that the parents and children could see any hatching action when school was closed. When I did this last, we had access to Adobe Breeze through our LA and we set up a room - this enabled us to invite the parents and also to record any moments where eggs were hatching.

 

Is there anything similar - and free to use - available now? I realise that we could broadcast live on facebook, youtube etc but this doesn't seem quite so go or quite so safe.

 

I'm a headteacher, rather than a computing expert so I am not very techie.

I'm tempted to suggest youtube live streaming for the simplest set up. Parents should be briefed about managing their children's access to the site.

Make sure you are signed into YouTube using your school official account rather that your personal Google/Gmail account.

If you have Office365 A3 you can use Skype for Business to achieve a similar result

You might be able to add one paid for user licence for Skype Meeting Broadcast to your free Office365 A1

There's a variety of solutions that were posted, depending on your available resources and budget. I'd also advise asking your technical support team if they have any ideas because (especially if you want to post it on your website) there may be bandwidth considerations with streaming video constantly.

Second this, OBS is a lightweight program that can be used for streaming to Youtube. It's easy to setup, and can allow for layer setups (So you could have a date/time, or pictures, whatever you need). If you have any questions on how to configure it, feel free to ask.

Thanks, chaps, we've been looking for something just like OBS Studio for our video streaming needs. I installed it earlier, set it up with our YouTube channel and was amazed to be able to make a test stream in no time at all. Sometimes software just works!
