I don't have an iPhone and have just been sent an email from a governor asking for instructions to let him receive the schools gmail emails.

My understanding is you can connect gmail to the built in apple email or download and install the Gmail app, and I am wondering which is the best option and simplest to explain.

Thanks

Adding a Gmail account via the default app is really straight forward.

If their iPhone is up to date they need to:

1. Go to Settings

2. Account & Password

3. Add Account

4. Choose "Google"

5. Enter their details

6. It should now work.

If they're an iPhone user used to using the native iPhone email client, leave them with that rather than the gMail app.

If they had the gumption to use the gmail app, then logic would suggest they would've just asked for the username and password and cracked on with it, rather than for specific instructions on how to add an email account.

Use the gmail app. Apple mail app sometimes has wobbles with gmail for some reason.

We have found this too. We recommend users use the Gmail app.
