Brother Label Printer not installing where I want it to go

Hi!

 

Bit of a basic one, and sorry if anyone has posted regarding this before, but I was wondering if anyone has come across this:

 

We are upgrading our brother label printers from 570's to QL 700s.

 

I know how to install a printer! This isn't the issue. The issue is for some reason after a lot of troubleshooting the printer installs as a device not a printer. Not usually an issue as it works just fine BUT because the printer is used soley through Microsoft Access when I want to change the current Label Printer to the 700 I can't because it's not listed as a printer!

After several attempts I have finally managed to install the machine as a printer but for all my sins all it ever does is tell me it has a communication error and it's not connected properly. I've done the usual switch it off and on, follow support from Brother Online, speak to Brother online regarding drivers but I can just not get this stupid thing to work.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions? Am I missing anything?

Are you installing the printer via a network or USB?

 

If it's on the network see if you can ping it, if it's USB make sure you can see the printer under "Device Manager".

I am installing via USB - and yes I forgott to mention I can see it under device manager

I have indeed seen this thread and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I'm tearing my hair out here as we need it for production ASAP

It's via USB and yes I've used the above drivers and I can see it under device manager

If it's just a standard USB printer then the driver should make it work. Do you have another machine you could test it on as a fresh install just to double check it's not an issue with the machine it's currently on.

I have tested it on Win 7 and Win 10 machines - both fresh installs. It's so annoying it just says communication error when installed as a printer; but as a device it prints all day long - not normally an inssue but as its soley used for access it needs to be added as a printer. Sorry

On their website there is a printer driver cleaup tool Downloads | QL-700 | United Kingdom | Brother (Assuming Win10 x64) that could help you fix the issue, it seems really bizzare that it doesn't pickup as a printer when the driver is installed.

 

If it's happening on more than one machine on two different OS' then it seems like it could be a problem with the printer itself. I unfortunately don't have one of this at any of my sites so I'm not 100% on how they should be setup, it shouldn't be harder than just installing the driver though so it must be an issue with the printer/driver.

Thank you for your response, I have also tried that clean up tool. I did originally think it was the label printer - but it works just fine as a device. Very frustrating

I know you got in touch with their support but try again. The only other thing you could try is a machine that is not on the network at all and connect via that see if it makes a difference.

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm Experiencing exactly the same problem. The brother firmware updater tool doesn't even recognize a device is plugged into the computer.

Is the Editor Lite light on? If so try turning it off (hold Editor Lite button down until light goes off)

Thanks @hilcRwise I was just coming back to say turn that off. I then upgraded the firmware (not sure I needed to) and all worked fine. Edited June 20, 2019 by jonnykewell1
