It’s almost time for us to start nailing down details for our annual EDIT conf and, due to construction work at the National Space Centre in Leicester, are looking for a new venue, at least for this year as they have advised us that from March to June the work being undertaken there will make a conf inadvisable due to excessive noise levels.

As it stands, the National Space Centre has proven quite a successful venue for us this past couple of years due to its central location however, it has also been difficult for those living in other areas, particularly the South West, so we are just putting the feelers out for an alternate location this year.

 

Please make two choices from the survey above. One area where it would be best for you, and one area where you could make the effort to attend.

I know some of you have volunteered your schools to host our EDIT Conf, but sometimes these are not ideal as we do have a lot of requirements as I laid out to some of you in the Discord discussion a few weeks back.

Ideally we are looking for a town/location that has a venue that has the following features:

 

• Enough space for us and our exhibitors (60 attendees + 10 exhibitor tables)
  
• Enough power sockets for us and our exhibitors
  
• On site catering that offers a range of food types (vegetarian + allergy free)
  
• Good (and we mean really good!) internet and WiFi to handle the streaming of the conf and all of the attendee’s devices
  
• Good road/rail links
  
• Free on-site parking
  
• A reasonably priced hotel nearby for attendees overnighting
  
• Be affordable to hire (some places we have looked at over the years are ridiculously expensive whilst offering few facilities)
  
• Excellent communication with us during the organisation phase as we have to do this from a distance as we can’t simply pop down to check it out
  

 

 

As you can see, it’s not simply a case of booking a random place and turning up, there is a lot of organising that goes on behind the scenes.

 

If you do know of anywhere that can meet our requirements, then please feel free to suggest them but taking into account the details above.

Voted Midlands as that's where I am... and south east/london as it's easy to get to from basically everywhere (I dislike that London is the centre of everything, but that ain't gonna change any time soon)

If it does end up in the south, could we reach out to Joel & James from the Google for Education to see if they can offer one of the SE Google office venues - would be a good forum to promote GSuite for Education. Not sure of they are on Edugeek, but I don't know their handles.

I think I've mentioned this before, but I reckon Cardiff would be a good location.

 

Cheaper than london (I expect), good transport links (M4, Mainline Rail) pretty easy to get to from everywhere except the northeast (sorry northeastern EduGeekers)

 

So that would be my suggestion for a Wales / South West Conference
