Morning all,

I have been asked to put together an agreement form that all staff must sign before they are issued their personal laptops (they all get one). We have had some issues of people installing certain filesharing apps which don't go down too well with me.

Does anyone have an agreement they already make staff sign to hand over responsibility of the laptop from the IT dept to the staff member. This has to be seperature from the AUP that all students and staff must sign.

It would be nice if it included something about illegal software / copyrighted files.

Thanks guys/gals

No agreement (I doubt that the heads of my schools would be willing to enforce them :( ) but I was going to recommend trying "P2P Barrier", which I've been hiding on some laptops of late. Too early to tell if it actually works, though. Unfortunately they've started to charge for it - how rude!

If you look around you can find the older (free) version still available.

We are toying with the idea having two laptops returned to us a week, under the pretense of updating\cleaning. We hope this should cut down on file sharing and misuse of the laptops and might even stop people from just leaving them at home all the time.

Just had a laptop brought in that had been bluescreening "at home".

It's quite amusing to read your comments after the person who brought in in said to me without any irony

" I don't know what they've (kids/spouse) done to it, I hardly ever use it"

PPMate Sopcast and quite a few other extra-curricular programmes on there ;)

I had a phone call from a teacher last Friday that went as follows:

Teacher: My laptop has stopped working!

Tech: Could you be a bit more precise? was there any error messages? what was you doing when it stopped working?

Teacher: It has been broken for a while it just finally gave up.

Tech: When does it stop working, at the boot screen or in windows.

Teacher: I don't know there is a big crack going along the screen so i can not see.

Tech: how did a crack get in the screen?

Teacher: I don't know i just opened it up and it was there, i haven't dropped it or anything.

Seriously this is not a joke!!!!
