Home Drive Access

Hi,

 

We are looking at migrating from our current onsite SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint Online however we currently have a web part which allows users to view their home drive from home and upload files.

 

Does anyone know of anything similar which would work with Sharepoint Online, or alternatively any other solutions to users accessing home drives from home.

 

We have looked into HAP+ but cant get it working with our current permissions setup and we have also looked remote desktop for file explorer but neither of these seem to be as user friendly as our current solution.

 

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Remote Desktop is user friendly as it intergrates with Active directory and would take you to you home drive. The only problem is that you have to have a big server to host VDis so each user has its own license to login per session.

 

You could host the software on the VDI and open your files on a remote session, this would save you work incase of loss of data

 

My view on sharepoint is that you have to upload files and download files which is a pain, you cannot just open it and save it like a normal document. Its all seems to be good but for me you want less complication as possible.

 

Some people may have an opinion against mine but its personal preference, you just need something user friendly which does the job.

If you don't want to use Remote Desktop or apps for whatever reason, Foldr is a good shout. Very user friendly, supports drag and drop, very lightweight install and support is pretty good.

Could you move your home drives to Onedrive and then use the Office 365/Onedrive app to access the same folder?

Thanks for all the ideas, I have download a trial of Foldr and must say i am impressed.

 

We had thought of just using Onedrive but our internet connection can sometimes have its off days so would rather keep file storage locally for the moment.

 

I have asked Foldr for a quote to see how much licensing would cost and take it from there.
