(Still a child on the inside) Some cars were nicely done, most however were tough to find a modification or more than a sticker. Funnily enough, they are all sticking neon/led lights back on the cars again. We all went away trying to think of new ideas for stuff that looks good. Me being techy, ive been playing with projectors to see if i can produce a hologram on the windows. Like this made out of glass/cd case on a phone screen: Using a projector against the windscreen gives a faint picture, most of it goes through and blinds whoever stands in front of the car. Tried all sorts of household items like cling film but cant find a way yet. Anyone else into cars and attending meets? Seen anyone good and not done before?
NB9457 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I stopped going to meets and shows because the attitude changed from laid back and chatting about cars, to just willy waving festivals with 'clique' groups who look down their noses at anyone. Still like cars though and have met some life long friends through cars, I just don't really show my cars off much, just make them how I like then drive them

Last time i went the only people that we found were decent were some young lads who all had micra's. All in uni and spending all their money on these cars until they blew them up and brought another. Theres not much customization happening these days and finding whatever you can to get the job done. And when did it become ok to just smoke week anywhere, Seems in the last 6 months its everywhere.
3s-gtech Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 It really depends what scene you're looking at. The 'tuner' culture has been pretty unappealing for many years, despite my love of cars. My idea of mods is entirely beneath the skin - and perhaps some audio work. To each their own though. LEDs are popular again because they're so cheap, and so flexible in use. However, most don't tend to survive for long (remember smoothed bootlids and bodykits that would crack after a week?) which I suppose is just as well, as the car would usually be upside down in a hedge after a week. Budget modifying seems to have been improved through the normal cycle of aging cars though - bolting on OEM parts from a better model is often pointless but no harm. Lighting wise, I think it may be worth looking at some of the awesome computer controlled interior lighting effects you can achieve with light strips, a Raspberry Pi, and some planning! You can achieve holographics with a small amount of smoke injection - no idea how good that would be inside a car though!

You can achieve holographics with a small amount of smoke injection - no idea how good that would be inside a car though! it used to be something i did /went to but ive actually removed mods on this car (previous owner put led interior lights in and they diddnt like the dimming so flickered which was really annoying) but i basically only ever did oem+ type stuff so in my 2001 fiesta (the one i altered the most) it was things like chrome interior door handles /interior lights off a ghia detangoing (removing the orange cover from the front headlight lens and using silvertech bulbs) was never into big mods (my current car is the first tunes one ive owned (bar things like k&n filters and air intakes from different models) 1

I have a Puma - very popular to bolt bits from those onto mk4 Fiestas for OEM+. I think the mods you choose to do are very dependent on what car you have, taste wise anyway!

I think the mods you choose to do are very dependent on what car you have, taste wise anyway! with pumas its often people nicking the 1.7 lump and replacing the 1.25 in their mk4/5 taste wise yes i never saw the point of the stupid body kits if you need to modify a car that much you almost definitely bought the wrong car to start with lol

Currently ripped the rear seats out and fitted a double bed, along with LED lighting, USB sockets everywhere for charging purposes, swivel seats and a leisure battery system. Split charge is next.... (Does a DIY camper conversion count? :-) )

Normally replacing aftermarker light clusters with oem. Currently doing a 106 on the cheap, like 2p is all i have. Got some cheap as chips wheel trims in black. Gotta get some plasti dip as i cant stand the chrome fake nuts. Got some sound activated lights coming in. Dont know if i like this or not Gunna get some black plastic dye to get the trims back to black. debadged the back before i even got it home for the first time, got the rest to do. 3s-gtech Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 If you want to do a 106 and can't afford alloys, don't bother with wheel trims - they look worse than nothing! Sand and spray the steelies white, in the style of a Rallye. Much cooler. 2
