Is there much realistically on the GDPR list for us IT peeps.

Make sure the data is secure on the servers, password policies, computer lock policies, encrypted emails... Thats about it? Rest is down to the general behaviour of how staff handle the data.

Well yes and no :p I mean those are fairly big sections when you start getting into the nitty/gritty.

I mean two example how you're going to be deleting records from backups for "forgotten" people? The 900+ online apps/websites/sync tools that you use for different companies, I mean groupcall is a prime example how they're changing their exporter tool to XOD etc

Whats the GDPR retention policy on leavers?

30 day is my backup retention period and that's it.

The group call Xporter I can understand does need a fundamental change.

And then what about information on MIS that is useful further down the line, for instance past pupils from 20+ years ago needing their results...

That's retained in the MIS system itself? I don't see the issue here...

From the document referenced above "if you have already onboarded with SIMS Online Services. Onboarding is a one-off process." (and paraphrasing the next bit as it is a little bitty) if you haven't onbaroded yet then log a call with your SIMS support. I'd advise doing this with plenty of time before you want to use any of the online services SIMS Parent Lite included as there has been a 2 week backlog and this is before they launch a free app to every customer.

That's what I got as well. Going to email support later today.

After playing with this briefly yesterday (before I suspect the service died under a post-BETT load spike), it looks interesting.

One thing that's not as granular as it could be is the "Contact Can See Only Self" options under SIMS Parent > Settings.

@PhilNeal - does the SIMS Parent Lite respect the court order flag in SIMS? When I quizzed the helldesk about this for Options Online, they dodged the question on the basis that "Parents don't have access yet".

@pete I'm not at Capita on a daily basis now so can't be sure BUT I do know the Product Manager Ben Jones and there is no way he'd have forgotten to block off court order people. Also they go to great trouble to make sure that one parent can't see the other parent's personal data.

Just trying this out with a few members of staff here who also have children at the school. They've all experienced the same problems when trying to register. They get the message....

Your requst is taking longer than expected.

However, if you are still unable to register please contact your helpdesk.

Therefore signup seems to fail, but, I then see these users as successfully registered in admin.sims.co.uk.

The users then find they can in fact login to SIMS Parent and see their child(ren) but find that "Data Collection is Unavailable", despite it being enabled within the admin console.

I think this still requires some work. Anyone else facing the same issues or does this only affect us, in which case I'll raise a support call?

I had exactly this at one of the schools we support yesterday. Another one today was fine.
