Choosing a teacher laptop

Hi,

 

I'm after a bit of real world feedback on 3 computers that i have narrowed down too for staff laptops or just some opinions on which to go with. The three laptops are:

 

HP ProBook 440 G4

Any advice and/or opinions would be good.

Got to be the HP. The first Dell has a 1366x768 screen which is stingy nowadays, and the other Dell is overpriced. Real world - all I can tell you is that the ProBooks I've used have been solid, as have the Latitudes. Also, a 1366x768 screen is a lesson in frustration in Windows 10 - it's just too cramped.

If you get a Dell laptop via Dell or a re-seller, you will get better spec than that at a cheaper price.

We have had a lot of probook 440s for staff here and they have been solid.

A couple have had to go back for repair by HP but in general very good.

Would not buy vostros after a bad experience a while back resulting in all of them dying within a year or so.

Have just tried some HP 250s but not as good quality as 440s.

@jam_lane whilst we don't offer the newest and shiniest machines (we are a refurbisher after all), we do have some excellent laptops for far less than the going rate for a new one!

Contact Dell directly. The prices they have listed on their websites won't be representative of what they'll sell them to you for. As FN-GM says, they will most likely offer you a better spec for less money, especially if you're buying a lot of them. They offer pretty significant discounts to education.

 

Probably worth contacting other builders such as VeryPC and Stone if you want to buy new.

I have been a fan of refurbished in the past while budgets were sorted out means i'm now in a position to offer staff a new laptop every 3 years and for a whole host of reasons, i think new is the way forward but thank you!

O365 Videos/stream has been the game changer!

HP all the way. I would recommend giving HP a call though, as I've had some insane deals from HP recently, and very quick delivery too. Really can't fault them with it.

I would avoid the Vostro range completely, not very well built, and from experience doesn't cope with the knocks a teacher gives them!

This is why I will always ask VeryPC for my first quote, the honesty from a company that sells laptops is top notch. they have also sold us some great laptops over the years and the very cheap 5 year warranty gives me peace of mind.

I got some refurbished Lenovo X1 Carbon (Thinkpad type) staff love them and they were less than £400

Thanks for all the comments. I've gone with the HPs from Ebuyer - The reson they were so cheap was because they are now end of life and Ebuyer had bought all the stock! I must say, on first impressions i'm impressed but i'll hold out on full blown praise until they have been road tested!
