cookie_monster Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Sniff sob, i hate this software. I'm suddenly having an issue where certain clients can't see the content, ones that are already installed seem ok but new installs generate an error message during install. Error: No feature to import found \content\common.oninit missing Please verify your installation source. Any ideas? Cheers.
Joanne Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 check over the msi and have a look for said file. make sure where it is pointing for the content is correct (if that makes sense!)
cookie_monster Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 I've entered the correct IP address and port number for the web server with the content. I' don't think it's an issue with the msi as it will install the stand alone program ok.
conehead Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I don't know anything about this specific software, but if you are talking about IPs and ports, are you sure windows firewall on your problem machines is not on and blocking your content out?
cookie_monster Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 No windows firewall on the server and some clients can still see the content.
Ric_ Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Also check that your Java and Flash versions are up to date. An update for the client can also be downloaded from their website. The app is indeed a pain.
conehead Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 No windows firewall on the server and some clients can still see the content. Firewall off on the clients too? and if you try to run it with another browser (firefox maybe) will it connect?
Michael Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 If you manually install the MSI on a problematic machine, does this solve the problem? If the files are on a file server have you double checked permissions? How do you control your shortcuts to applications? And is the shortcut on the problematic machines pointing to the right location?
john Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Also check that your Java and Flash versions are up to date. An update for the client can also be downloaded from their website. The app is indeed a pain. Yup it is, BUT I will get the tech guys at NT support there credit, they worked tirelessly for over a month with me and in the end I got it working with them, shame the departments decided that it was over priced and they already have over 90% of the content they felt. But they did help me lots with it.
cookie_monster Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Java and Flash versions are the latest. Some machines work so i don't think it's permissions. If i manually install the MSI it still doesn't work. I'll have a look to see if there is a later client. Cheers.
K.C.Leblanc Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I've had trouble using network installs of escience with Java 6, was fine once I'd rolled back to 5.

Cheers. the latest version might be the problem, the escience software is very specific about what it will and wont work with.
Ric_ Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 the latest version might be the problem, the escience software is very specific about what it will and wont work with. Hence the patch on the Nelson Thornes website.
cookie_monster Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 (edited) I might try rolling back to an earlier version. @ K.C.Leblanc: Nelson Thornes have a patch to fix the Java 6 issue. Nelson Thornes Technical Support Patches on patches what a mess. Edited March 31, 2008 by cookie_monster

cookie_monster Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 @ mrtechsystems: was it Flash or Java causing the issue this time?
cookie_monster Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) UPDATE from Nelson Thornes The latest version of Adobe Flash, 9.0.115.0, is not compatible with this patch. Please contact us for further details regarding this issue. We will provide updated information on the site as soon as it becomes available to us. UPDATE: Adobe have acknowledged the issues regarding the latest version, Adobe Flash Player 9 Update 3 (v9.0.115.0), and are apparently going to be addressing these in a future revision of Flash Player. Basically if you updated Flash then you better un update it, have a nice day :-) Edited April 3, 2008 by cookie_monster
cookie_monster Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Has anyone ever tried a manual uninstall of the client? I tried on a couple of clients using Add/Remove programs, i click uninstall then it says 'configuring software' then finishes saying 'maintenance complete' but hasn't uninstalled. Good greif.
cookie_monster Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Ok the new java version sorts that problem but i have another issue that mpg videos will not open when VLC player is installed. If i view the process under Process Monitor i see the call fails with "FAST IO DISSALLOWED" if i remove VLC it launches ok in media player. What an app :-( Any ideas
