googlemad Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Just this morning we've had 2 hard drives fail and 1 fail(ing) in a laptop! A curse has struck us over the weekend!!!
Joanne Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 we've had a lot going wrong recently... maybe there is some magnetic force breaking them all!! I blame the earthquake!

Wildebeaste Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 We had 7 laptop drives fail over the course of about a week. They were all over 3 years old. Can't expect them to last forever. But it is a bit scary. Best bit is asking the staff if they made a backup of the important data they saved to their desktop (no roaming profiles on the laptops). Almost worth the hastle. Toshiba with Hitachi drives. I was half expecting a built in expiry date with the other 100 due to fail. Bought a batch of replacement ATA drives (about 15). I have to saw the ends off the drive cradles to make everything fit in the case! Only had a couple fail since. Phew!
Sylv3r Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 We had a drive fail in one of our servers on Friday, and today we have had an issue with our main electrical feed into the school - with the power tripping everywhere, lights going out etc. The servers are all off tonight and NEDL have dug up the ground hoping to fix it tonight they started at 6:00 and they are still in school now. Depending on how they get on they are either fixing it tonight or they is a big generator coming in - either way i'll be in at 6:30 - 7:00AM turning everything back on again!
