SchoolsBroadband Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 oh and Netsweeper is a country mile better than where it was in the old RBC days. We're currently on the latest stable release of v5 and about to go to v6. With v6 we have full integration into Google Auth which is one big thing our customers want going forward. We've had it working in the lab and will be deploying this very shortly. Thanks Dave
Blue_Cookeh Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 (edited) @SchoolsBroadband - is there any chance that transparent filtering is going to make a come back ala Lightspeed style? We're still quite impressed with the NS solution after the LS debacle. Netsweeper and transparent proxying would be a dream at this point Edited May 11, 2018 by Blue_Cookeh 1
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 All i can say at the moment guys is that we are working very closely with Netsweeper on what will be a world first. We've lots of new things working in the lab which need to be rolled out into our production environment and heavily tested before being released to our customers. Some of the new features will work and some of them may not once tested in earnest. We don't want to rush the new features out without extensive testing so we can ensure stability is going to keep the 100% uptime and high throughput speeds we already have with the new platform which is the reason we've invested so much into it. I expect us to make an official announcement around the start of the summer holidays so watch this space Dave

I think it is supported with Netsweeper. 1
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 Have you tried using WCCP. I think it is supported with Netsweeper. We had considered this but it doesn't work in the way we need in our environment. Thanks Dave

sister_annex Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I expect us to make an official announcement around the start of the summer holidays so watch this space Dave, I don't want to put words in other people's mouths but if they're anything like us then the start of the summer holidays will be too late for us to schedule in the downtime/transfers that moving to V6 may incur. We have very limited manning and available maintenance time due to staff being in for end of year tasks, exam results and the such. Granted if there is nothing for us to do then I can understand that and ideally, doing any form of migration to a new version at the start of a school year is a big no for us due to the complete madness that a new year brings. Ideally, we could do with knowing before the start of July so that we can properly schedule it in with the other work that is already planned in.
TMBS Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Anyone using Creative Cloud Desktop App with Netsweeper? I have the proxy settings in IE and browsing works fine but the Creative Cloud Desktop App just returns "No Internet Connection". Nothing appears when I look at the live traffic in the Netsweeper Console. Any ideas? It's never worked for us either
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Hello, We are not expecting existing customers to make any changes to their setup unless they wish to take advantage of the new features available which can be done immediately or at a time convenient to you. We'll give you plenty of notice as per our maintenance notification windows we give on service upgrades. Watch out for official comms via email as usual. Thanks Dave
fiza Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 It's never worked for us either With Netsweeper? For how long? Are you telling me SB don't have a solution for this? @SchoolsBroadband - Dave your guys must be able to get Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App working?
whartomt01 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 You tried Winhttp Proxy settings? We have to do this with Sophos Central through Netsweeper (and on schools on ICT4C before they went) https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/119263

Can you PM me the case ID please and I'll pass onto our support manager for you if you've not escalated it already. Thanks Dave
clockend25 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I have to say the crowing about 100% uptime is a bit galling given our experience since moving over. The upcoming changes I'm sure will improve things, but the question has to be asked why it was rolled out in its current state, which in my opinion in many areas is not fit for purpose. Our contract is up in November and I am counting the days.
fiza Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 It's never worked for us either Alexander from SB did a remote session in just now and got the Desktop App working. Seems it was getting blocked under category "HTTP Errors". 1
Blue_Cookeh Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Before I go through the helpdesk has anyone got any documentation or anything regarding GDPR compliance from SB? Or maybe @SchoolsBroadband can mention to us? I'm just aware that technically NetSweeper/Lightspeed could be a minefield for data. 2
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Hi there. All of our policies are in place. We are going to be sending them to all customers I believe very shortly. Feel free to contact the helpdesk earlier if you wish. Dave Before I go through the helpdesk has anyone got any documentation or anything regarding GDPR compliance from SB? azureusnation Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 @SchoolsBroadband Hi Dave, Spoke to one of your engineers today about or new thin client, data center project we are doing and needed some advice. I wanted to know if we used the data centers internet connection, can we use the Netsweeper filtering you currently provide us. After your colleague asked another three or four colleagues the answer I got was no 'it can't be done'. Now I know that if you have a port setup for filtering that doesn't require authentication, you can use this from anywhere; I can use our iPads port from home and it works as it should. Now I didn't believe it so me being me I went to the Netsweeper documentation and found the following links to what will allow us what we need to do for this project - Link 1 Link 2 Please could I have a senior engineer call me on Monday to get this ironed out as the functionality is there and I want our project to go as smoothly as possible. I'll PM you with my details.
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Morning azureusnation, I'll get our product manager @RobMason on the case. I suspect this can be done and I'm even thinking of potentially putting a local version of netsweeper on a server in your dc..... I'll speak to Rob on Monday and we'll get back in touch shortly. Thanks Dave
azureusnation Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 @SchoolsBroadband Hi Dave, Many thanks for your reply, what you have suggested sounds great! Thanks Ashley 1
lmrogers Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 So it looks like transparent proxy is achievable with Netsweeper. https://www.empsn.org.uk/2018/05/03/netsweeper-bring-in-transparent-filtering/ Is this something SchoolsBroadband are going to implement?
synaesthesia Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Looks interesting; proxies are a ballache and should have been left in the late 2000's where they belonged!
