We are still happily running our OnPrem Eclipse.net without any issues.

 

I was wondering if anyone knows if HTML5 is available for us to upgrade our OnPrem Silverlight install as the current version is driving our librarian mental.

 

Also, does anyone have the link to the latest download of the Silverlight management update.

I'm almost certain that the HTML5 version was never released for on-premises (though I may be wrong, and in theory it'd work). MLS realised it would be easier to monetise if you had to subscribe instead. What version of the Silverlight install are you running? I'm on 16.5.25.1458 which I believe is a pretty late release - I got it from MLS days before our contract expired. Edited November 28, 2017 by 3s-gtech

I do see HTML5 (CPP) as a selectable option when i look in settings > General > Interface Mode.

Ok, so i might have pressed the HTML5 (CPP) and borked our MLS up!!!

 

When trying to access the server it's trying to get to their hosted version rather than the OnPrem version.

 

Can anyone help.. please??

Before you start changing anything, make sure you log off/close IE in case it's just the connection for that session.

 

Then look at your request handlers in IIS on the server. Also have a look at the 'Configure' application for Eclipse and check the settings there.

We had this debate the other day despite promises of the HTML version coming for on premise installs this never materialised. We are also happy hosting on site and saving £450 per year in hosting charges! Although if Microsoft scrap silverlight we're not left with much choice.

What happens when you just navigate to your server address in IE (full path)? I don't know what button you pressed, it may have been the 'I'm going to have to restore from a backup' button!

It feels like i chose the 'you cannot go back option'. I found this and followed the enable hrml5 interface http://www.microlib.co.uk/home/HTML5.aspx and its led me down the wrong keyhole 🙁.

 

When i browse to servername/mls.net it takes me microlibrarian.net rather than my eclispe server. If i browse to servername/mls.net on the server it gives a MLS.NET cannot be found error, i think its the 404 error.

 

I think the database is still there, its just the management side thats borked, there has to be an undo button or something!

That would suggest it has changed the config in IIS. This can be reverted - I've done so before. Not got the control panel to hand to check, but have a search on Google (IIS Configuration History).

i spoke to MLS recently about this and they were still pushing for us to go hosted, our on prem eclipse is quite a few versions behind, it does work well enough.

I enquired about the HTML5 for local and was basically told the latest version of silver light 16.x.x is all local hosted schools are going to get.

and yes i did the same thing as you with the interface having got excited about seeing the HTML5 option.

Also im pretty sure the recommended specs are a little over the top but will see when if and when it gets pushed into production.

Thanks i've found the CFGHistory in C:\inetpub\history but it only back dates to 16/12/16 which is when i upgraded to the latest version.

@timbo343 I see the HTML5 CPP option on my setup too - I wont be turning that on anytime soon !! I'm on version 16.5.25.1458. It its really bad that Microlib wont give us the HTML version, as we are still paying for support cost :-(

They are not holding back on it they wont release it they want all schools to go hosted!... FYI we went hosted and it was terrible and very slow.. afraid we have today jumped ship and gone with another supplier.

 

My advice to you would be to stay on-prems as long as you can until they sort their hosted out! Search these forums many others are unhappy.

Indeed they do but i have a feeling they won't give it out. It's another way to make more money.

i was testing the system in a hyper-v snapshot so just reverted.

It was between Heritage Circa and Oliver and we went with Heritage as we found they don't rush upgrades and it just works, you get all future upgrades to new versions included in your maintenance charge so no other outlay when future releases come out.

 

Librarian just couldn't do her job, it was too slow , crashed often and when calling support all we ever told is to clear cache and internet history..ive never had to clear internet cache so much for one website!.. in fact cant remember when ive had to do it to any other websites.. Support always seemed to say it was our system at fault and not there hosted solution.

 

Afraid since they bought by capita its been one slow down hill.. support don't answer for ages, shes been on hold for 30min - 1hr to support at times.

 

I think one needs ask how long they have left as a company to be honest as Capita bought them out, but Capita have their own library system.

Its because they want you to pay the hosting charge, its guaranteed income! if they allow you to host you can decide to end support and still use the software!

I'd personally just end support and stick to the latest Silverlight, get a copy of their guides first. You never need to ring them for the hosted version breaking, more for when your not sure what to do and don't want to look yourself. Not worth the money.
