graphics card suggestion

Hi all,

 

My Marketing guy needs a new PC

 

He uses dual monitors (1 VGA 1 DVI) currently and I would like to re-use the monitors. 22" so running 1920x

 

He uses Adobe Indesign 2017

 

What spec should I get him for the PC and graphics card do people suggest?

16GB ram, modern quad core i5 or i7, an SSD (at least 256Gb) and a GFX card that costs in the region of £150-200 should keep him happy for three or so years.

 

The adobe suite keeps moving more and more to depend on the GPU, and needs lots of RAM, don't skimp on either. I think it is reasonable to assume that the GPUs capabilities in the mid and high end 2017 iMacs have the capabilities to keep the Adobe CC suite running well (for most people) for several years, so pitch the GPU at that level.

 

You might need to reconsider keeping those monitors though as I'm not sure GFX cards for Adobe Suite support them anymore. But I may be wrong on that.

He is currently using Pentium Dual core 3Ghz, 8GB RAM and a normal HDD - it's just a bit old now as its nearly 4 years old.

 

That spec looks rather pricey!

Consider a workstation from ICT Direct or Bargain Hardware. Even an older high-end machine will be much more powerful than a Pentium Dual Core. Easy to spec plenty of RAM, SSD and even a Quadro, but may be worth getting the card new to reflect big advances in the newest generations.

The move to GPUs is going to be the killer for performance, but perhaps not quite yet for InDesign workloads. If the current rig is still fast enough, perhaps sweat it out a bit more until you need more oomph.

HP 280 G2 - SFF;

Intel I5-6500 3.2 GHz

8 GB RAM

256 GB SSD

Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10

 

Maybe wack a half decent GFX card in something like this? Maybe some additional RAM as that's cheap enough

Nope @bald_pig, you broke it! I believe ICT Direct is the edu store, while Bargain Hardware is not - if he's not in a school, I think he'll need to use the latter. Do schools have marketing people?

Both schools i've worked at have Marketing People, Interdependent schools gotta get their name out there somehow

You can pop up to two 8 core xeons in them, loads of RAM and your choice of Quadro Cards
