LemonEntry Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 We have a student here who qualifies for ESA allowances, and has been assigned an iPad for individual use both in school and at home. We use Apple Configurator to manage iPads (10, plus this extra 1) at the school site, but this won't work for one taken outside of our network. Are there any MDM solutions which are suitable for just one device? I'm happy to use Configurator to handle profiles and configuration, but something to lock it down and track it when off site is required. We have VPP and Apple School accounts, but are currently only used for licensing applications.
NB9457 Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I know Apple Device Management for Schools and Districts | Mosyle Manager MDM offer a free version, may be worth a look. If not, find my iPhone should be fine for a one off case, then you can track/lock/wipe it. 1
jcollings Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 We've just started using this: https://www.zuludesk.com I think it has 30 licences free. 1
jthompson Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Meraki do a free MDM. We don't have any Meraki gear at all, but have been using it for the few Android and iOS devices that we have. We've used it to deploy certificates, WiFi profiles, apps and restrictions such as preventing the use of cameras on student devices. 1

jthompson Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 (edited) Meraki is not free....... Perhaps is was free back when we signed up then. We've certainly not had to pay for or buy anything, and it's still working for us. ---- Just checked and we're on the legacy free license, which hasn't been available for new signups for a couple of years. It's now trial or buy a license for new sign-ups. Edited November 22, 2017 by jthompson
LemonEntry Posted November 22, 2017 Author Posted November 22, 2017 We have "free" Meraki MDM available in the form of a Legacy license, but it's been abandoned for over a year and the certificate has expired. I can reconfigure it and regenerate the cert, but if I'm doing that I may as well create a whole new setup with a different MDM. Also just discovered that my iPads are 5 years old and can only run 10.3.3 -_-

snagrat Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 ZuluDesk is not free either. Although pretty sure you buy one license for it so would only cost £6 per year

Bev Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I use Apple Device Management for Schools and Districts | Mosyle Manager MDM Free version. I am using it for over 100 iPads and it's working great. I can't see any reason not to use it for 1, and then if you need to scale up later you can. I also use Meraki and Lightspeed at other sites, and I haven't found many things I can't do on Mosyle so far. I use it to set restrictions, push out apps silently, put iPads into Lost mode, find them on the tracking screen, and set custom wallpapers with iPad Names and serial numbers. For free I have no complaints at all. 1
LemonEntry Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 I'm looking at Mosyle for the time being. Thanks for the suggestions, all.
