Very PC Flex Case

This is going to sound like a really stupid question but... how do you open a Very PC Flex case? Never had these before and I want to have a look inside but I can't work out how to open the thing, there's a blue lever which I can hear click but doesn't allow the side to be either slid back or lifted off. Can anyone help please?

It may be that by pure luck the one I've unboxed so far is broke, got some instructions off Colin at Very PC and they don't work (it should just be common sense anyway surely, pull the blue catch and slide the back off). Going to go try another one now

Yep almost throw the thing against the wall. These instructions might be the same. I did have to put some force on it to the point I thought I might break it.

Ah no that's the Flex Micro, I've got the Flex. Just by accident whilst checking through them all I got the lid off - slide towards the front of the PC, not towards the back like 99% of cases. Hooray.

Slide the blue lever to the right (if you're looking at the back of the case) and push the lid forwards. It took me a while to figure it out if I remember correctly, I also think some of the Flex lids are easier to get on/off than others!

Bit fiddly to put together (we did originally have them pre-assembled but that resulted in 30% damages in transit and going back for new cases on our first batch of 10 - following that we had to put the bracket/feet on ourselves but the failure rate dropped to 0% for the remaining 45 PCs) but once you get the hang of it then fairly quick to do.

 

Cases seem sturdy enough for us, look really neat with the cable cover with custom branding (school logo). Bit of a struggle to fit all the IWB cables in, but we have that with every "all-in-one" style case we've tried, think these are the easier out of the other four we've used (Dell Optiplex 755 USFF, Viglen Omnino 3+4, Viglen Integra, Zoostorm Micro Elite) as there's a bit more room in the side. We also have far too many IWB cables (HDMI, VGA which we don't use, that yellow one nobody here uses, USB->Cat5 adapter, sound). Ours don't get that much abuse though as we're an Independent so very little PC smashing/vandalism going on.

 

The hardware is just an ASUS board, can't remember what brand RAM/SSD they put into mine but from what I can remember there were no nasty surprises when I opened one up.

 

If I were to magically get handed lots more money it'd probably go on replacing the rest of the old kit with the Very PC Flex.

 

(@VeryPC_Colin_M any chance of some free chocolate for the recommendation? )

Make sure you do the trick of putting the feet on wrong, put the left on the right etc. It means they can't be swivelled very easily (though thats a state school issue maybe) if they becomes as issue.

Also did they provide you with the screws to stop the monitor being spun around from horizontal to vertical? If not ask them for them and you get them normally.

 

Although I left my previous job, I'll take some of the credit for the metal fronts and school logo being an option as we tested the original cases when they first had them in stock and told them the plastic was rubbish and our kids would destroy it, which resulted in VeryPc going off and producting a metal front for us that could be branded. We still had one of the original metal fronts that was tested but wasn't bent enough. The final ones they sent to us (branded) were fine though. Branded metal fronts looks a lot better as well.

Bit of a struggle to fit all the IWB cables in

 

There was mention, somewhere, about a large-sized plastic case end section, but when I rang VeryPC the person I spoke to didn't know anything about it. If you've got a computer connected up to a projector as well as a monitor there isn't quite enough room in the standard-sized plastic end section for all the cables. Other than that they work very well - we use the Flex PCs for our senior management team, who all seem to be convinced they need huge 27" monitors, which is about the largest screen you can fit on the front of one of those cases before it unbalances. We've had the Flex PCs for at least 3 years with no significant problems (one machine had some failed RAM, but that was easily fixed). We have also been pleased with the newer actual-all-in-one Glide PCs, too - we mostly use them as the teacher's in-classroom machines. They don't have cable storage space in the case like the Flex, so we generally put a cable tray under the desk and shove the power supply and cables in that.

We love the Flex cases - especially the tamper-proof cable thing at the rear - no more chasing the broken keyboard/mouse around the room as the faulty one constantly gets swapped around for a working one from another PC!
