10GB Switches

We may be looking at upgrading our fiber runs to handle 10GB. (Our server switch has 2 SFP+ ports and some servers are trucked) I know any new runs are 50/125 Mutimode)

 

We are mostly 3com and HP switches in each rack (POE switches are netgear as they was supplied with our wireless system about 10 years ago)

 

Just wondering what 10GB switches do you use?

I have a HPE 5406zl (chassis based) core switch with an 8 port SFP+ module for the 10 gig links. At the top of each remote cabinet I have a HPE (Aruba) 2530-48G-2SFP+ switch linked to the core 10GbE. We then have a load of HPE 1910/1920 switches (mixture of 24/48 port and PoE/non-PoE) each with 4 x 1Gb trunked off the 2530 at the top of the rack.

 

The nice thing is the core and the 2530s have the same admin interface, bad thing is the 1910/1920's are basically rebranded 3com lines so they are completely different (although they were cheap)

D-Link Here (an old DES-6500 and a newer DGS-6604 ) Both are Chassis based switches with DGS_3420-52T/P switches on the end - all star topology from the cores no daisy chaining

Jus put in 100+ 2540's with SFP+ , we have 2530's but these are non-SFP+ uplinks.

 

The 2540's are a bit noisy where as the 2530 PoE+ switches are very near silent.

We use netgear. Excellent value for money. Usually buy them second hand. The last 10GB were £100 each, easily upgraded to latest firmware. Don't buy any genuine fibre modules...rip off prices...£10 Chinese ones work flawlessly and have never failed - unlike the genuine netgear ones.

 

And yes, I hear the cries of horror....such as the Web interface is so S L O W...and yes it is especially on the older switches...but its not unliveable with.

I'm using a HP/Aruba 5412R zl2 as the core with HP/Aruba Aruba 2930F as access switches, no issues at all love how you can manage them all as a single stack using Virtual Stacking
