Gah... it would be nice to see some of the ideas he was musing, but yeah, understandable that he didn't want anyone taking over the work.

It saddens me that there will be no more Discworld novels.

 

For now at least I'm still putting off reading The Shepherd's Crown, just so that there will always be one more novel left to read.

 

But, I'm kind of glad that nobody else gets to finish his works, despite my wish for more it just wouldn't seem right.

i toyed with the idea of not reading shepherds crown as well but in the end i would read it as it does contain some closure for want of a better word though i havnt been able to read any of his books since.

 

Yeah much as i would love more discworld books its probably for the best look at the 6th hitchikers guide book its pretty bad

I definitely will read it at some point.

 

Toying with the idea of going through the whole series from the start and finally reading it at the very end.

 

I can't imagine not wanting to read them though, I have to read Night Watch every couple of years at least!

i used to pretty much read em and go back to the start all the time. Its not a case of not wanting to as much as starting reading realising there wont be any more and stopping even tried "books on tape" versions i the car got so far and stopped for the same reason though i did get a few books in think i got to about wyrd systers

If they guy had more then 1 computer and was a bit of a computer geek - why would he only have 1 IDE hdd with his work on?

^ Yeah - IIRC, Terry had sufficient monitors on his desktop to put a decent-sized NOC to shame. I'd have expected SSDs or at least SATA.

I save about twenty drafts — that's ten meg of disc space — and the last one contains all the final alterations. Once it has been printed out and received by the publishers, there's a cry here of 'Tough , literary researchers of the future, try getting a proper job!' and the rest are wiped.

What are the chances that Terry had already deleted the unfinished works (just in case), and the steamrolling of the hard drive was only for ceremonial purposes?

Backups don't exist. His instructions also mean that Narrativia are in complete control over his works and any derivations. Unless Rob, Rod or Rhianna decide to break the instructions that STP set out (which are likely to have a legal binding to them from everything that STP has previously said) then all unfinished works are gone and only existing work is going to be used for any productions.
