Cannot rebuild to windows 7 from win 8 CC4 network

Hi All,

 

We have recently just purchased some new HP Prodesk 400 G4 SFF. We have been having issues where we can only build to Windows 8? We have informed RM who have said this may be to do with the GPT hard drive format and follow instruction into cleaning this disk park via CMD. Unfortunately this has been unsuccessful and we're still having the issues with building. We have also been instructed to enable legacy boot which we have done and this has still been unsuccessful.

 

If anyone has any ideas into resolving this issue could you please let me know.

Once we PXE boot the only available boot option we have are for windows 8.1 only.

That sounds like it's still booting to UEFI PXE. Have you tried a USB build disk?

There will be a setting in the bios to enable old os to be installed, just looked up that machine and it says in the manual it's called:

 

Conƭgure Legacy Support and Secure BootLegacy Support – Lets you turn oƫ all legacy support on the computer, including booting to DOS, runninglegacy graphics cards, booting to legacy devices, and so on. Windows 7 for instance requires legacysupport, whereas Windows 8 does not.

We unfortunately don't have windows 7 on a flash driver. Do you know where I can get this from via the rm website?

Is there any other settings in the bios for the network boot, i know we've had some MSI motherboards in machines that we've had to tweak the PXE boot settings in the bios to get to see the other build options?

I have attached some photos with some options I have.

 

Also the Legacy Boot Order is has a tick in the box but it is greyed out I will attach photos.

The photos suggest that legacy boot isn't enabled. It's hiding in there somewhere, keep looking.

I had this exact issue I think last week. It seems you can't change the UEFI or Legacy boot options if you've done anything else in the BIOS. Exit out the BIOS and power off. Boot up and go into the Bios, into the second screen you posted and click on the greyed out Legacy area, hopefully this will enable you to change things in it.

 

It's my first experience with HP PCs and I'm not hugely impressed TBH.

We had to change an OS option in the bios from windows 8 to "other OS"

 

If you have a cd or USB then you can boot to that, at the option screen for the OS setup, "shift" + "F10" to bring up a cmd and then a clean disk via disk part.

On most new PCs these days they are locked to the installed OS. To wipe it and re-install something else you have to disable "secure boot", this unlocks the BIOS to allow other OSes to be installed. We had to do it for our HP 280 G2 models, this should also allow in turn legacy support boot options.

 

If you have disabled secure boot successfully you should be asked to enter in a code upon reboot to confirm.

 

Also disable "fast boot" as well Just in case.

Thank you all for your responses.

 

I have tried everything that has been listed. When I do change anything from the bios, upon restart i type in my code to confirm this and go back into the bios to check if I can then enable legacy support but it appears to be that everything is just changing back.

 

I will Enable legacy and disable secure boot onces the pc restarts to process change it changes back to legacy disabled? Would there be something else in the BIOS that is preventing the Legacy support to be enabled?

I have seemed to fix the issue. It was very frustrating as it was so simple.

[TD=class: small]The issue was when enabling legacy support and saving the pc would restart and a code is required.

 

before typing in the code you have to press NUM LOCK and then proceed to type in the code.
