Evening all,

We are currently in the process of replacing or HP MSM wireless network with a Ubiquiti solution. With the HP's, it's my understanding that all of the traffic goes through the controllers, so this is where the VLANs are tagged for the wireless networks. When I have created new SSIDs in the past, I have tagged the relevant VLAN on the controller port and it's worked fine.

Am I correct in thinking for the Ubiquiti Unifi APs each AP switch port will have to have relevant ports tagged instead? With 101 access points, this is going to take some time. I'm also thinking that if anyone new networks are added in the future, I would have to tag the new VLAN on each port again if this is the case? Or am I missing something?

Thanks

I think you configure vlans in the controller software. I have not used it myself but I remember discussing it with a vendor some time back. I think the unify website is pretty good so you should find what you need there.

Yes you will need to tag the port in the controller but each AP will need the port tagged on the switch for any vlans coming from it (if that makes sense).

Remember to think about which vlan you will "manage" them on as well, again set in the controller software.

Hi Geezersoft,

Yes, you do configure the VLANs in the controller software, but I'm talking about the switch configuration.

Thanks James, that confirms my suspicions. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something simple.
