SteveB_NI Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 (edited) Unfortunately our core switch (HP A5500-24G-SFP) stopped working suddenly. It was used for 5 x fibre connections around the building (using H8519p2bnl-h3c GBics) and a small number of Cat 5E connections to the direct servers. I am looking for a replacement Core switch but not sure where to begin - the HP recommended replacement (JH149A) seems a bit overkill, as I only require the same amount of SFP ports (currently 4 in active use). Any pointers for possible replacements would be appreciated, Thanks Edited August 3, 2017 by SteveB_NI
NB9457 Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Try ring HP, it may still be under the lifetime warranty
DalekSec Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Try ring HP, it may still be under the lifetime warranty Seconded, HP lifetime warranty will sort you out! They will either do a like for like, if they don't have any in stock you'll get a newer model. Had various switches over the years die and been replaced with the warranty, the phone call is a bit of a chore and they get you to do a few tests on it, but if it's completely dead with no signs of life then should be a straight foward 'I can't test it, it doesn't turn on!'
SteveB_NI Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 I had heard about life time warranty, but never thought it would apply to such an old switch! Happy days - thanks very much!!
3s-gtech Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 HPs lifetime warranty on Procurve stuff comes up as somewhere around 100 years when you register it! It's pretty comprehensive.
Norphy Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 One way or another, it's got to be worth a go. The worst they can do is say no.
SteveB_NI Posted August 3, 2017 Author Posted August 3, 2017 lol that's why he told me it expires in 2110 then lol!! I thought it was a bad line and I'd mis-heard him. Do they send engineer out or courier? At present I'm due to be off next week but that might change now!

My warranty replacement the other month was a replacement unit sent out with courier, with a pre-paid label for shipping the faulty one back to them. Although mine was broke beyond anything an on-site visit could fix (powercycled every 5 minutes)
