JoeBloggs Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Hello, Anyone got an internal wiki server? If so what are people using? Going to set one up for IT staff to find answers quickly. Thanks
free780 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 I tested this: https://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki# I managed to getting it working with LDAP. But if you have Office 365 set up I bet wikis are in Sharepoint somewhere.
jthompson Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 + for DokuWiki. We use it religiously within the IT department for our documentation. Authentication against AD can be done with a plugin. What's nice about it is that it doesn't require a database. All the pages and config are stored as text files, which makes backup/restore/migration a lot easier compared to other options like MediaWiki.
Netwacky87 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 OneNote on a SharePoint share...brilliant, so flexible, so simple. Just works. 1

Meldrew Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 +1 for DokuWiki. We use it for internal IT documentation too.
steve Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 We use a MediaWiki, incredibly useful for us. I'm amazed how much I didn't document in my last job compared to my current one. Some well thought out templates for regularly created page types and you're away - our main ones are ServerInfo, SoftwareInfo, PrinterInfo
Jamo Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 xWiki is the one I usually use XWiki - The Advanced Open Source Enterprise and Application Wiki (Main.WebHome) - XWiki.org
unixman_again Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 We have both MediaWiki and DocuWiki. MediaWiki had better editing features, Docuwiki is easier to setup and manage. Personally I prefer the former but the boss said a couple of years ago that we are moving to the latter. I've used https://moinmo.in/ in the past too - it really is the cat's pajamas (or it was when I used it).
jthompson Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 If you happen to go with DokuWiki, I can recommend the following plugins: https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:edittable - Gives some WYSIWYG table editing options, which is useful when tables get large or contain large chunks of text. https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:move - Let's you rename a page (it will automatically scan for and update backlinks from the rest of the wiki). https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:upgrade - Gives a webUI for upgrading DokuWiki to the latest version. https://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:wrap - Lets you add coloured callouts/alerts into pages. Whatever you go with, I would also recommend having a syntax cheatsheet for it stuck on the wall in the office. https://www.cheatography.com/explore/search/?q=dokuwiki
quiet_andy Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I use the wiki plugin for SharePoint, does exactly what we need.
Chris_Jones Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 +1 for Mediawiki here, once its setup and AD integrated it is really straight forward to use
