36Degrees Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 (edited) As you all know, SQL 2008 doesn't work anymore with SIMS so I need SQL 2012 and I need to install it alongside SQL 2008. Unfortunately my knowledge of SQL is virtually zero so the Capita customer guide (attached) contains a lot of elements I don't fully understand or in some parts understand at all. Can anyone help, either with the following questions or point me in the direction of an idiot's guide? Any assistance would be VERY much appreciated. * I won't go into detail but suffice to say yes I know it's a last minute panic and I can only upgrade on the existing server! 1) Unique Instance Name - i.e SIMS2012 as the current database is SIMS2008 or is that something else? 2) Installing SSRS - is this SQL Server Replication? Will it become obvious when I install SQL 2012? *EDIT - Obviously SQL Server Reporting Services!!! 3) SSRS Unique Instance Name -see question 1! 4) Backup all 2008 databases - do I do this from within SIMS dbAttach or SQL Server Management Studio? 5) Restore the databases into 2012 - do I do this from within SIMS dbAttach or SQL Server Management Studio? 6) Connect to SSRS 2008 Configuration Manager and backup the encryption key for the instance - how? 7) Connect to SSRS 2008 Configuration Manager and configure the service URLs, connect the instance to the restored 2012 Report Server database - ??? 8) Remove any old instances from the scale out deployment once the key has been restored - ??? 9) Open the CCS Enterprise Configuration Utility - ???SQL Migration.pdf Edited July 28, 2017 by 36Degrees
matt40k Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Guide is for migrating Capita ONE - the LA product. Not for SIMS. SIMS doesn't use SSRS for starters. 1
Atomic_Zombie Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Hi, The document you attached is for Capita ONE, which is not SIMS. Do not follow it. The best thing to do is to use the SQL Migration utility ( https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/Notifications/SIMS-Release-Download-Links/ ) (Capita MyAccount login required) or ask your support team nicely for some help. see https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/search/RequestSharePointFile?i=KKKL5QU54zI%2Bkm8KoezlDyly2TbML08kiO8TaXohkT3oXvqcuhBXbFVtauVPfefujDsRRTjk6p4aJVKWeTYFUYNXEsMoEyymdTZTngh4aiouwKS1SRhIkaSk5PlSkC%2BJFSKraWpIQv8j8FjaG%2BHuqg%3D%3D for more info re the migration utility. 1
36Degrees Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 If I wasn't crying so much I would laugh! This is the guide Capita emailed across to me...
36Degrees Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 Please tell me it is as easy as downloading and running the utility? The 2012 version isn't listed. Would I be as well running the 2016 version?
Atomic_Zombie Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 (edited) I would suggest using 2014 for now, 2016 has only just got support so probably worth waiting. And yes it is pretty much that simple. select current version of SQL, tell it what DBs you want to migrate, tell it to make a new 2014 instance and it will move it over. you will have to update SOLUS though. 36Degrees Posted July 28, 2017 Author Posted July 28, 2017 Thanks AZ. Don't currently use SOLUS either so no problems there!
dapaulio Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Don't quote me on this but I vaguely recall that in s:\sims\setups there is a sql migration application for 2008 There may also be one to migrate to 2014. Warning if you do upgrade to 2014 you put the database into compatibility mode as there are known issues with sims and 2014 sql. Capita resolution to this is putting it in to compatibility mode. I have documentation from capita when I upgraded to 2012 from 2008. I can email them to you if you wish 1
36Degrees Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 I have documentation from capita when I upgraded to 2012 from 2008. I can email them to you if you wish Thanks. I'm going to contact Capita again and see what they say as I can't find any migration tools in the setup folders.
gomalley Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Just remember - it wasn't in the guide I was sent - that the SIMSSQLApplicationSetup.exe in the Migration folder needs replacing with your current version from your Setups folder - took me ages to work out that the stage was missing in the guide my Support Team sent me! I have the full SQL 2012 Migration Zip file if you haven't had any joy getting hold - let me know 1
dapaulio Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 I realised that the migration tool came in an email with a zip attachment. Steps through the 2012 migration tool and also how to do it manually. I too have this to hand also. If you have no luck with capita let either @gomalley or myself know and we will get the zip to you
