Just a quick one that's got me a bit confused. Our staff use RM Easymail here, which is all browser based. Whenever they get an attachment, they have the choice of Open or Save. If they choose Open, the viewer app (be it word, adobe reader, or whatever) will open but can't find the file. Saving first works fine. RM have an article that says it's a problem with "locally stored temporary internet files" and we followed their instructions to clear them out but nothing changed. Any ideas?

Hmm... we have EasyMail here - used in conjunction with IE6. I've just tested it and this working fine here. (I had to cos I only use it as webmail at home, I use it with Outlook at school :) )

I would start with checking group policy - is this being hit by a pop-up blocker?

We had that for a while. (I.E 6)

Found it was the Temp Internet Files folder was full and not emptying properly.

This is what worked for us :-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache]

"Persistent"=dword:00000000

Empties on Temp Internet Files folder after closing IE.

Worth a try, thanks!

No joy, I'm afraid. I'm wondering if it's something to do with admin staff being privileged users on their machines. That's the only real difference between them and normal staff.

This problem does seem to point to a permissions or access issue (initially), because presumably a staff user can logon to Machine A and do everything as required, however if a child user logs onto Machine A, then the problem happens. It does sound a profile related problem from the sound of things.

I would try (if possible), to create a temp pupil user and allocate them a new profile, then try again. Let us know what happens :)

After looking at it a little more, it doesn't work for anyone, not even sysadmins. It'll work maybe once or twice and then it's no-go for anyone, just the same file not found error from the handler app. If they then move back to another machine, everything's fine again.

The only difference I can see between these machines and the rest of the school is that they have privileged users on them (and therefore the RM Privileged User Service).

I'm tempted to say we'll leave it. We should be getting an Exchange server sometime next month.

From what you're describing it does sound machine specific. Seeing as you've isolated the problem have you spoken to RM about it? If you disable the RM Privileged User Service, does this prove successful?
