Steve21 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 They're anti cycle gates I've always been told. The idea being you can't cycle through them, but if you dismount you can turn the handlebars and the wheel fits through the bottom. Never understood the point as no doubt you just then get back on and cycle again (or in your case around the side lol)... But yeah... council logic Steve
6Foot2 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 (edited) There might be a slight design problem with this gate?? which is brand new by the way - there has been one there for years but this is a new one the gap has stayed the same Motorcycle Inhibitor Barrier: Edit: Beaten to it! I guess they are more a deterrent than 'motorcycle proof' Edited April 2, 2021 by 6Foot2
mikeprice Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 They use them a lot round here on cycle paths - so they are probably not there to deter cyclists - just stops cars and motor bikes and the like and forces bicycles to slow down bicycles do have to stop - there are various techniques to get through them depending on the size of the bike annoying thing is that some are slightly narrower than others - there is one near a nice local pub where my shoulders don't quite fit through facing dead forward - thus resulting in having to use a different technique
Steve21 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Ah yeah guess motorcycles would make more sense, as they wouldn't be able to twist the bars enough to get through, while bicycles could with dismounting as you say Steve
mikeprice Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 They make a lot of sense - especially with the increase in idiots on scrambler bikes recently not a lot to break on them unlike 'kissing gates' and such - which are also a real pain for bicycles!!
stevejp Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Is it just my eyesight (probably) or is there a gap plenty big enough for bikes etc on the RH side of the gate itself?

stevejp Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 From another thread: Sheep... cyclists... cyclists... sheep - I suppose you could make a link...
mikeprice Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Is it just my eyesight (probably) or is there a gap plenty big enough for bikes etc on the RH side of the gate itself? That was supposed to be the point - nice new thingy (style, gate, what is the name???) - large gap left to one side plenty wide enough for a motorbike! maybe I was being obtuse again

mikeprice Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I know this is going on a bit - but before mods appear (with wands) then some useful (??) information these barriers are called Motorcycle Inhibitors apparently https://centrewire.com/products/motorbike-inhibitor/ ANyway 1
6Foot2 Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 Too many bollards is not enough!.. ..it seems.
mikeprice Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 . Given the USA flag in the background - I would presume one of 'those' states (mentioning no name for amphibious reasons) 1
mikeprice Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Wish I had taken a picture of it - but I used to work near a road that had "Dead End" and "One Way Street" signs at the start of it
ICTDirect_Dave Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 This place in Durham has always tickled me.

6Foot2 Posted April 29, 2021 Author Posted April 29, 2021 Too many bollards is not enough!.. ..it seems. Not NEARLY enough!
mikeprice Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 Not NEARLY enough! The Daily Mail anti-cycling campaign really seems to be gathering force!!
