It would be interesting to see just how many people out there use them now as we do see at shows more and more people clutching them whereas in the past it would have been an iPad.

It's an interesting article and just goes to show how it almost never happened than almost got canned, but Microsoft held their ground, addressed the early versions shortcomings and got it where it is today.

Got a Surface RT back when MS were selling them for peanuts to Education customers. Think it was just over £100 including a touch cover. Still going strong(ish) after 3 or 4 years although have been tempted to upgrade on numerous occasions!

We've still got about 25 of our 30 that we bought. They work fine. Keyboard covers looking a bit worse for wear though.

Only thing that stops them working is them being dropped...

also have an RT hardware is great the OS less so shame they didnt do discounts on the X86 version at the time

I have a Surface 3 (not pro) and find myself using it more and more.

I think this started once I got an XPS 13 last year and realised that large (yet powerful) laptops were simply not needed for what I used a laptop/portable device for.

They were heavy, had poor battery life and when you had to lug them around when travelling quite awkward.

I love my Surface, it does what I need it to do (Office mainly) and is very portable.

i had a surface pro 1 for a few years i replaced it with a chromebook its easier to use on the sofa being a clamshell does less granted but i have a laptop if i need grunt/windows and i found i still needed that with the surface anyway

I have a Surface Pro2, 8/256GB model with touch keyboard. 4 years on it is still in good shape and fit for purpose with good battery life.
