ICT direct Hardware for Adobe creative cloud

I am looking at replacing HP 8000 E5400 2.7GHz RAM 2GB with machines form ICT direct. Is an i3 with 6GB or RAM going to be good enough to run Most of adobe creative cloud applications? It a pain as the units are currently mounted on the integrated HP stands so ideally I want to replace like with like.

My workstation is an i3 2nd gen with 6gb ram. Adobe cc works absolutely fine

I really depends on what cc apps will be used heavily. If it's premier and video editing I would consider a bit more ram and some more cores potentially depending on the video length and if it's 4k. Rendering the EDIT videos on my custom, albiet older i7 took quite an age with 1080p video and used a fair chunk of ram but the videos were long.

 

Photoshop etc should be fine though I would think.

Rendering on anything but a cutting edge rig will always take an age. I can happily chop around 1080p vids

True, it does also love to swallow ram but most people won't be editing long videos so it's much less of an issue if they only need to cut the odd short video.

Once you get SSDs, you'll be asking yourself why you never did it sooner. Worth every penny.

Every PC in my school has an SSD now. They are that good.

What ever hardware you're running Lightroom will still be a dog at times.....

All depends what you want to do within CC really. Our machines that are regularly running CC have either:

an i7 3770 with 16GB RAM

an i7 6700 with 8GB RAM

an i5 6500 with 8GB RAM

All SSD based machines

 

The machine that is used for video editing improved no end when we (the newer i7 machine) has a GTX 1050 too.

 

For the students however, the machines run Pentium G840s and G860s, or i3 3240s, and are fine for ordinary use and seem fine

Problem is that room has ultra smalls currently so space is a bit of an issue.

Currently to get get a new machines it is gong to be £6900 vs around for refurbished machines £5280. It's those SSDs that is being a pain I know some people have only seen marginal improvements with SSD's.

 

Originally (before creative suite) I had planned to use i3 machines with 6GB of RAM and SSD's but I can't seem to get those in USFF from factor. I am looking at machines that will fit on the HP stands in place of 8000usff.

The only time I have seen marginal perf increase is on old sata controllers where you are limited by the data throughput.

Never had anyone (apart from people who wanted a shiny new machine rather than an upgrade) who have ever moaned (Can sort that out by changing the case). Then again, make sure you use a decent SSD - I nearly always buy Samsungs (Evo for standard machines, pro for high end machines), and also used the HyperX Savage before and found them to be fine. Then again, if you go for the OCZ Agility 3, or Corsair Force series, then it will be faster than a spinner, but not anywhere near as much!

I've got a set (35) HP DM1 which have some $deity awful AMD low power chip in them. The SATA controllers are so poor that the difference in startup between a brand new 6Gbps SSD and a generic 5400 spinner is no more than a couple of seconds!
