Incorrectly wired lamps have damaged projectors. Possible recovery?

Morning Folks,

 

Sorry for the badly worded title but here goes.

 

We bought 3 bulbs from a well known retailer a few weeks back for spares.

 

Recently we have had to use these bulbs in our projectors. Once we placed the bulbs in the projectors and powered them on nothing happened for about 30 seconds, then they went into "shutdown/cooldown" phase. Upon closer inspection of the old and new bulbs, two of the three new bulbs have been wired incorrectly (pos to pos & neg to neg) I believe this has caused the projectors to crap out on us now. I have tried putting the bulb that is wired correctly into these projectors and it does the same "boot up > 30 seconds > shutdown/cooldown".

 

Upon contacting their customer support they have said they will take the bulbs back as well as our projectors to verify that this is what has caused the projectors to die.

 

Is there anything I can do to verify myself that they are completely knackered? Maybe some sort of power cycle on them or...? I don't really want to be opening up the chassis because they could turn around and say that it's something I have done.

Ummm.... That is how things should be wired.

Have you tried a known working bulb in one of these projectors? pretty sure bulbs aren't polarity sensitive so shouldn't have caused you any problems.

Ok. Well we have two new bulbs that are (back of bulb to the right jack / side of bulb to left jack) and one new bulb that is ( back of bulb to left jack / side of bulb to right jack)

 

Our old bulbs from the projector are the first config.

Have you tried a known working bulb in one of these projectors?

 

I have tried the one new bulb that has the same wiring as the old bulbs and it won't power on. I have also tried two old dim bulbs and it won't power on either.

Have you turned the projector off fully? I have found some projectors sit in a limbo mode after cooling down and the only way to exit this is to turn off at the plug/fuse/pull the cord, count to 5 then plug back in.

One projector has been sitting in our store room overnight. The others I have left unplugged for now.

Generally, the polarity of a lamp will make no difference whatsoever. However, the projector may have sensors to detect the lamp count or condition. For instance, I've replaced the lamp itself (the bulb, if you will) in projector lamp units where the original has popped, and they tend to play up. Replacing the whole assembly fixes them up again, even though there's no electrical difference.

Are they NEC projectors? if so did the lamp timer run out before you changed the lamp i.e. hit 0 hours remaining. As with a few models you have to hold down the "help" button on the projector remote to get the timer to reset

Old ass projectors. I'm guessing they don't have these sensors in them.
