mikkydoos Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Hey all, Contest: Who's is the best ? What do you guys do with power cable management in your racks? Mines a rats nest and needs sorting so I can slide servers out on their rails without pulling the plug ! Mixture of switches, servers, UPS etc. Need some good idea's. Any pics out there ? Cheers in advance
3s-gtech Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 My racks all have nice long cables fitted and the power cable goes into the folding cable guide - this ensures that it doesn't pull the plug when you slide the server out! These are on my HP servers, but my old Dells had them too. The UPS is fitted so that the cables are long enough to slide out fully even on the furthest machines.
sted Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 ive got some good and some awful depends how much theyve been altered from the first install and how much of that was planned rather than o damn we need a new switch for x reason etc. Ideally now i do patch panel - brush plate - 48 port switch - brush plate - patch panel (repeat as needed) this is the aim but its not always possible as schools often wont spring for new cables so you end up with cables that are far too long for the distance they cover
jthompson Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Our servers have the folding cable guides at the back. We have a couple of IEC power rails mounted vertically on the rear posts of the server cabinets, which are connected up to the UPS. That allows us to plug in power cables at roughly the same height in the back of the cabinet. The IEC power leads are all labelled up, with power leads from each server going to separate power rails. We can therefore unplug a whole power rail if need be and not take down both PSUs of a server. That proved handy when swapping out a faulty UPS.
