Change your car pollen filter m'kay!

Finally got around to doing this yesterday evening with thanks to my brother.

I have a Mk4 Modeo and it's not a simple job as with some other cars, involving the removal of some paneling and the glove box before you can get access to the filter housing itself, which is a pain to get to even when you have access.

I only got the car last year and had noticed that the air quality wasn't great and that the air flow wasn't what it should be, especially as I'd had the air-con recharged the other week and wasn't as cool as it should be.

So, we pulled to filter and tool a pic next the new one to show the condition. It looks like it hadn't been done in quite some time:

 

 

What I didn't get a pic of was the bars of dirt left behind on the boot lid by the old filter.

The new filter has made all the difference. The air-flow is now almost at gale force and the air-con is noticeably cooler because of this too.

For the price of a £9 item it's a highly recommended servicing item you can do yourselves if you notice that your air quality and flow are not what they should be. In most cars it is a very simple thing to do with the filter housing being very accessible.

I used to have a Friday afternoon special MK1.5 Focus. God, it was an awful car. But anyway, one of the many reasons it was awful was that the front windscreen wouldn't demist. Replacing the pollen filter fixed that.

Pollen filter? Pah! I don't have one in this:

It is a pain in the mkIv Mondeo, I would do mine but the air-con is as dry as a convent's bar so not much point. It's very easy on the Audis, and those made a huge difference - typical sign is a misting up windscreen for no apparent reason, and musty damp air coming from the vents.

I have my BMW serviced every 12 months, so all the filters get swapped as part of that.
