Anybody use 'cheap' fake toner in their OKI's?

These machines must be THE most costly of printers to run. Pretty much all my budget for this year has gone already. £300+ for 4 of the toners, then there are the drums that seem to go as frequently.

 

So, just wondered if anybody uses the refills... I have always strongly objected to them (HP certified for printers and no the issues) and never recommended anything but genuine ink/toner...

Our C5600n had to have all its drums replaced, the refill company coughed up a refund of £200 for that.

we use remanufactured toners for HP 1200, 1300, 2550, 4600. I can't tell the difference between those and the originals.

Not at work we wouldn't,

 

but at home I have an Epson r300 which I print loads of photos off, I use cheap stuff at £5 per 6 cartridges off eBay which is unbelievably cheap, when the genuine Epson ink is £18each.

 

I had genuine Cartridges to start with, I haven't noticed any difference in quality.

So you still don't use genuine OKI toner? But it is 'professionally' refilled by IJT? Just had a look and it's a 50% saving

Only use original on our 9300 and 5450s. Working well still, but as you say quite expensive.

 

I made sure everyone knew that they weren't allowed to buy non originals after putting an HP 8550DTN in a skip.

always buy original oki toners for their printers. The oki's are unusual in that the drums and toners need replacing although the drums you have to replace a lot less frequently than toner. Colour printers in general are expensive to run because you've got 4 colours to replace instead of one. If you want to spend less on consumables buy a kyocera FS color printer but then again thats an additional £200-£500 premium over similar oki models in the price of the printer.

 

What you get with oki's are cheap printers and great looking color prints. Toner/drum replacement costs can hurt, but then you should expect that when buying any colour printer.

our range includes c5400, c5600 and 9600 (this requires a mortgage to be taken out for replacement toners)

 

Since they have been released, the oki rainbow packs (compatible) have been very good and users hardly notice any difference! (great cost saving too!)

I've given up with refills and remanufactured carts on account of them being utter $#!Te... you get allsorts of rubbish like ghosting and stuff...

 

Buy originals everytime! Sometimes the price difference is only a few pence! (Brother TN3060 55p more for the original... what kinda sense is that?!)

c5600n drums are sub £35, compared to oki b4100 @ £120 (printer is £80 new) and the previous colour printer the drums cost more than the replacement print too.

These are packs where you refill your toner yourself, but the toner killed my oki printers but they did refund.

Slightly off topic I know but if you're using inkjet printers and looking for decent 3rd party inks then look for resellers of Image Specialists and OCP inks... If the reseller refuses to specify then chances are it's cheap chinese clone rubbish.

We don't hae any Oki printers to comment on, and my experiences are mainly from Brother and HP units. For us, it really does depend on consumable price rather than quality (quality in nearly all cases equally the same). We have had varying remanufactured cartridges from different companies, most notably and frequently from Lasertech, although their offering is struggling to compete with other suppliers - in some cases, some of our other suppliers can supply originals for a few pound cheaper than LT can on their remanufactured brand. Of course, it makes financial sense on most of our drums to go reman, as that is where the savings for us usually lie, and we also have a guarantee of the consumable and the printer if the reman toners go wrong.

 

If you have had problems with reman toners on some models (by problems I mean expensive or endless issues), then by all means swear by originals, but in an educational environment where funding is barely above bread line, sometimes we need to compromise on what we order for our printers, and certainly for us we haven't had any real need to question the equal quality of the reman toners we have used.

 

Except for the odd toner leak here and there (and that is a rarity), the long term savings by using reman toners/drums where the price difference is noticeable is enough for us to be pursuaded, compared to cost in labour time in rectifying printers when they go wrong, as usually we have a guarantee on our printers when using the toners. Only when (or if) the price difference across the whole range is negligable, or when we experience an unacceptable number of failures which cost us money and/or time, will be the time when we go 100% original; for the time being, whichever is cheaper (and known to us as stable), is what we go for.

We use refilled toner for our old magicolor 2300, hp laser 6 and the office mono printers, local branch of cartridge world, delivers same day brilliant service and quality is fine. We don't use refilled for our two new lexmarks yet but will when they are older.

The inkjet refills aren't up to much though so we buy originals, but they are hardly used so don't need replacing very often.

Wouldnt touch compatibles with a barge pole.

 

Our consumbles budget is approx £25K.

 

From past experience the compatibles are just not worth it with poor print quality and significantly reduced printer life.

I told them i would never ever ever use their company again thanks to their aggressive marketing and still they tried to get me to get a quote from them.

Never had a problem using remanufactured/generics on OKI 5250. The new printers we have (5600,5650) seem to be more fussy about what toners they accept though.

 

Not sure why there is complaints here about the cost of running these printers, seem very economical to me, especially the mono b6300 range.

We have Minolta and HP colour lasers and have had nothing but trouble with remans from several places - poor image quality, leaky toner etc. We now use originals only and I am convinced it's cheaper in the long run.

 

Mind you this year we spent £24k on toner! I never understand how they manage to print so much rubbish!
