That £120 would be taxable. As would any device bought for staff that they use for personal business.

 

I know it's taxable. I wondered if you solved this issue by paying the amount through payroll so it got taxed at source. Not much of the £120 left after that... and every 4/5 years... better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but not much.

Those HP elitebook laptops from ICT Direct come with VGA ports whereas most consumer laptops don't any more. Whilst you can get hdmi to vga converters we had 1 instance where it refused to work with a certain projector. So best with a vga port.

The Hp Elite Laptops from @ICTDirect_Dave seem decent for the price, they are very durable and well built too

 

I've had about 60 of them and I've had one *recent* failure. I'm not bent out of shape about it considering the hammering they get.

 

Also bonus - they have w7 driverpack available and if you go win10 it finds all the drivers without a driver pack.

The school i'm currently at, has always put a desktop in every room that needs one. We don't even offer staff laptops.. If you are looking to save money, then this is the best way!

We're going down this route for staff - Desktops are better value for money to purchase - especially refurbed, they have a lower TCO, a lower support overhead nad a much longer useful life. We have a small RDP cluster for remote access and we freely distribute the RDP connection file for staff to use at home. I'll even go so far as to allow staff to bring in their home machines for me to set it up for them if they are really struggling. Some of the staff aren't well keen, mainly the one's who don't have laptops at home, but we've pointed out that RDP is available for virtually anything these days. It makes sense from a monetary perspective and it helps with dataprotection because no-one needs to cart sticks around - even encrypted ones, and the likelihood of losing a laptop to theft significantly reduces so the head is behind me on it.

Primaries - tends to be laptops for every teacher (and a few spares for cover/TA (although a couple of schools have now gone/started to go down the desktop route), replaced every 3-5 years depending on who it is, and how much they use it (a staff member who uses it heavily and looks after it with lots of interactivity gets them more frequently than a staff member who just uses it for smart and

Secondary - Desktop in every classroom, with a very small number of staff laptops (SIMS manager has one, Laptop for timetable creating, DSP and both deputies have one, and the others are just legacy pieces of kit we have reused if someone can come up with an interesting enough use for 'needing' a laptop - Best one (also most honest) - They were going on a week long field trip, and they wanted a larger screen to watch catchup TV in the evening.
