[ms office - 2016] Migrating from Office 2010 to Office 2016

In planning a migration from Office 2010 to Office 2016 did anyone take the opportunity to advise staff that DOC, PPT, XLS files would no longer be compatible and ask them to update or delete?

We have done a great deal of manual conversion of file types, but it's possible to script Powershell to re-save .doc files as .docx in bulk, which really helped. Not too many .doc still floating around now, but then it was superceded in 2006 so I'd hope not!

Yea they are....but are they not a higher security risk??

 

Also DOC format does not show correctly on iPads.

They're certainly not recommended, but they do work. Not sure if they're more of a risk really, just that they're not as compressed and don't support some newer features.

They are not a security issue, just docx etc is compressed.
