Xbox One digital prices

Why on Earth are prices on the Xbox Store so expensive? Like, old games still full price expensive.

 

OK, Skyrim special edition was only released recently but its a rehash of an old game, so isn't a new price level game. Yet its £49.99 on the Xbox One store, or £25 from various stores on disc.

 

WHY!?

I buy digital because I like instant access to my games and it has to be more environmentally friendly yet I am expected to pay for the privilege.

Captive audience (is that the correct term?). Whenever I see Forza 6 Ultimate Platinum Collectors' package, etc. for £95 I just browse GOG. Even though I'm not necessarily buying, seeing prices like £1.89, £0.70 and £2.99 all over the place is soothing!

Apparently when buying online you can share the game with others just by signing into their xbox. Will be using this when I next buy a big title and split the cost with someone else.

I know a few of the games on their now also let you play them in windows so they try and justify the cost that way!

You can, yes, but you can only be logged into/use a single console at a time. So it is basically the same as taking a disc round your mate's house.

from what i understand its because ms dont want to annoy brick and mortar retailers so the pries have to be higher (or at least the same) and they cant (or dont) just change them when $shop$ has a sale on. While the digital market is growing year on year they still feel they need game/amazon etc to sell the physical versions (though why they cant sell a digital download code for a game for the same as the dvd i dont know

Have you tried CD Keys? Availability can be a bit poor but you can usually get some of the older games in particular for a decent price. Prices change regularly so I usually visit every few weeks to see if anything catches my eye.

Apparently you set your friends console as your home console and they set yours as their home console. Then when you want to buy a game you get your friend do it on their console using your ID and you should then both have the game. Obviously you have to do this with a really trustworthy friend. - That is how it was explained to me, no idea if it works as I only have one console.

This does in fact work. Or it does on the PS4 im not sure about the Xbox... I have two consoles.. one for the wife and one for me hers is set as the primary PS4 and mine is just me logged in. So I buy games on her ps4 and she can play on her account and then I sign in on my account and I can play the same game too
