Hi

We disabled SMBv1 because of the Ransomware virus. However on the Konica Bizhub even getting it to use SMBv2 as the protocol we can't scan to a shared folder.

Has anyone else managed to solve this.

Get the firmware updated via your service account, but I would wait a little while yet as they're currently working on new firmware for slightly older models. 8th gen machines (e.g. 758) will work with software version 2.1 and above.

Anyone have any luck yet? I have the same issue, and it appears to not work for SMB2. All of our other shares in the office work fine. I get a 'server connection error.' I know it resolves DNS and can ping IP of the printer, so it sees it.

I was told that switching up the software version on KM MFDs is not a user task - needs a connection to the service port by an engineer. I believe that just updating the firmware is not enough - I guess because that's the equivalent of a BIOS update where it needs an OS update.

Have you tried changing the SMB value using the web interface of the MFD?

See step 7 of this article... http://blog.korteksolutions.com/how-to-setup-smb-scanning-on-the-konica-minolta-bizhub-copier-to-scan-to-a-windows-share/

Our leasing company advised that if we disabled SMBv1 then to change the printer to use v2/v3 if we wanted scanning to work. Still not got round to trying it yet as used FTP instead as a workaround.

It's not going to work until konica produce the new firmware to fix it which may be a number of weeks I suppose.

I've chased my contact again today but not had a reply yet.

Keep hassling your supplier!

The more people that raise this, the sooner companies will fix it.

It's should be embarrassing for these huge companies that they haven't sorted this already. What's the point of having SMB2/3 as an option to choose if it doesn't work when SMB1 is disabled.

FWIW I had a conversation with someone at Konica today which was a callback after I logged the issue via [email protected].

He has a list of copiers and status and planned firmware updates. For our copiers the status is -

C308 - should work on latest firmware

C654e - new firmware needed, in development, hope to release by end July / early August

BZ552 - new firmware needed, in development, hope to release by end July / early August

BZ950 - Needs SMB1, no listed plans to update

Hope that's helpful to people

Love how they say 'should work', they should know for a fact if it works or not. It's called testing!

Thanks for the update dcwhitworth. Are the C3350, C364e, 284e, and C258 on that list Konica sent you by any chance?

To be fair I think 'should work' was my phrasing not theirs.

Sorry but they didn't send me a list, I think it was an internal list that the guy was consulting. I think he said the C range of copiers will or soon will be ok, but don't take my word for it, as them directly.

Just raised yet another call with Konica Minolta about this (3rd or 4th one?). Although all perfectly polite, offering to send an engineer out, upgrade firmware etc, they don't seem able to grasp that all customers want is some clarity around what copiers support SMB2 now (e..g C308), what copiers don't (e.g. c554/284) and what is the fix with a date, and to make this available on their support page to avoid wasting everyone's time. Lack of joined up thinking.

I keep pointing out that this is not about 1 copier in a school in the bottom left hand corner of England, but potentially every device that scans. I'm sure the NHS will not want to be running SMB1 any more.....

I also pointed out that the recent Intel AMT vulnerability was dealt with by Dell, HP, etc.with clear information and timelines and as a result it was no big deal.

Curious that such a large company seems unable/unwilling to think about what is required by their customers and missing a chance to look good.

I suspect the issue is largely that the SMB usage on Konica copiers is not part of their core functionality, it's probably an area few engineers are familiar with so finding someone who knows about the issue is hard. They could certainly do a better job of circulating information though. They should publish a list of copiers, their compatibility with SMB2+ or otherwise and upgrade plans. I *know* such a spreadsheet exists internally because someone I spoke to on the phone told me he was looking things up on it.

Had an email back from a KM service engineer. He says;

"I am informed that the firmware is coming out in August This will be available for the machines you have at your schools C454e, C284, and C554 older models that are out there have no plan to update Firmware "

That seems to confirm the information in the previous post about this.

I still think it's a bit poor of KM not to post this officially on their website.

Roll on August!

Anybody have any luck with this?

Don't think Konica really understood the problem on the phone and the engineer that came out didn't seem to understand what I was saying.

Managed to convince him to update the firmware, but this didn't help.

He was basically saying it was a network problem.

So in the end I just setup FTP.

At last! KM engineer visited yesterday and updated the firmware on our KM c554e and both now work with SMBv2.

Still disappointed at the lack of communication over this but at least it is done.

It looks like the relevant FW is MFP Card Version A5C10Y0-F000-GDB-M1
