Staff Laptops/Mobile devices

Hi all,

 

Just wanted to check what your sites do when it comes to staff devices? Every member of the teaching staff and TA's have laptops that they keep with them, these are getting on a bit now as we brought them in 2010, so I am having endless complaints that they are slow. Also in the last 2 weeks I have had to take 2 laptops (these were newer ones brought 3 years ago) in due to smashed screens and as I have looked around other laptops, I have seen broken laptop cases, broken DVD drives, screws missing from laptop bases and screen surrounds etc.

 

I just do not have the funds to keep replacing or repairing laptops due to age or staff not taking care of them. So want to put together a proposal to put out desktops to each room and only staff that desperately need a laptop get one.

 

Before I do this though wanted to find out what others do?

We supply a laptop to every member of staff, which gets replaced every 4 years. We get quite a lot of smashed ones though from accidental damage and I'm sure a small proportion are never actually used.

hi there we don't give out laptops to staff or ta teaching staff can buy iPad on a scheme pay plan witch they take payment out o there wages if you had your laptop for 3 year cant you replace the hard drive with a ssd dive we have replaced a few of them and the staff love them and it will last few more years then

We used to give every teaching staff laptops, but stoped this back in 2009 when we put a teaching PC (connected to the projector), we have then got small staff areas around the site with PCs in. From the laptops we got back we then looked at them all, gave the departments a small number back for them to share between themselfs for home use.

Unfortunately laptops are seen as a nice little perk in all my schools. Would much rather go with your idea, but it always gets shot down.

Ours all get a laptop, an ipad and some of them a phone too.
