I can't access anything

I'm a newbie to Windows Server. I seem to be having issues where users don't have permissions to any of the shares. I'm not sure why it's not working. Here's an example of the error I'm getting.

These are the permissions set on the home folder share.

Also, when I log into my VMs the roaming profiles don't work and show a message saying that it is using temp profiles.

The share permissions look okay - what about the NTFS permissions on the folders? They have to allow access too. Also just bear in mind that using your DC as the file server, without DFS and DFS-R on the shares to spread the load, may put a lot of demand on a single server depending on user numbers.

I'd also make sure that the user you are trying to authenticate with is actually a member of Domain Users, just in case.

You need to check the Share permissions too

As above you'll need to add the Security Group on the Security tab.

 

Generally speaking it's pretty rare I use 'Domain Users' as that's literally everyone in your domain.

Check that the machines are connected to the network. You might have run out of up addresses in dhcp or have network problems Richard

Check DNS is working as well

On the item/folder concerned, right-click, click Properties, click the Security tab, click Advanced and click the Effective Access tab. From here you can specify a user account and device and quickly see what effective access they have- which will point towards what's limiting access.
