Hard drive usage 100% all the time

Wondering if anyone can help me i got my laptop running windows 10 but the hard drive usage is 100% all the time i have disable the BITS service offline files, turned off notifications turned off cloud protection also changed the settings on the AHCI adapter as recommended on the net but still 100% anyone can think of anything else i can do?

I've seen this happen and in the end (after further testing) the Hard disk was faulty. I'm not saying it is (in your case) but it's definitely one possibility.

If you look in resource monitor can you see any specific process that's got noticeably high red/write amounts?

Happened to my Dell Studio 1557 a little while back and I had to replace the hard drive. I would recommend slowly moving any data off of it. I'm not an expert but I don't think moving all the data at once is a good idea at this point.

is it saying 100% all the time regardless of the actual disk usage?

 

Thats an error I've seen, sat idle, 1mb/s r/w it'll read 100%, but set of a job to run and it'll jump to 100mb/s and still read 100%

I'm not 100% sure the windows 10 disk resource monitor is actually any good.

 

Have you disabled superfetch service?

I've had some luck with that.

The Resource Monitor is only indicative, it never will be completely accurate in my experience.

I had this on a friends laptop and it was a corrupt windows update. Uninstalled the last couple of updates and it fixed it.

I had a friend with slow performance issues and it was that the HDD was being hammered, disabling the telemetry process resolved the issue. Unfortunately Win 10 pro or home the only way to disable is through the registry: How to disable Telemetry and Data Collection in Windows 10 - Winaero

If I have any suspicion of hard drive issue the first thing I do is remove the PCB and check the contacts on the reverse side. The contacts oxidise leading to bad contact which manifests itself as various issues. It cleans off with a pencil rubber. I've saved loads this way.

two rows of eight that control the heads etc.

these three connect to the motor.

 

It might not be hardware but software as above.

I disable all the services i could find that may effect it and disabled ACHI drivers in the end had to reinstall windows 10 and now the laptop is working fine
