Has anyone else had issues with search within Outlook 2013?

I've had many users contact me about search just displaying 'No results.'

These are users from Education, business, home etc. All of whom have their emails setup differently (via POP, IMAP, Exchange) - so I don't think its related to a specific email protocol setup?

I've tried following the MS online troubleshooting guidance without any luck - even after rebuilding the search index it loads a little but then just displays the same error

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

They are - I even have a laptop with the issue that's a home laptop (without a domain / linked to any corporate system).

Might try an Office reinstall and see if that helps.

No, all users are using different email services - most are using IMAP and a few others are using POP - to their direct hosting provider (123reg) - some of the users search function is still working fine, however others don't appear to be working.

They can still send and receive emails as normal though, so I'm not certain it is a server-side issue.

As you said, it seems application based issue. In Outlook options, what settings are set under Search? Try unsetting 'improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown'

Also check in account properties and check the server settings and see if it's using 'Cached exchange mode' and try unsetting this, or change it so it caches all emails for the user

I had this issue too and no matter what options were changed in the search/indexing settings nothing helped. Ended up re-loading windows and running all the updates and now it works, not a great option I know.

You could try a complete reload of office, I tried removing the account and re-adding and this also didn't work.

Also, try rebuilding the search index:

1. Click on File then Options

2. Select Search on the left then click Indexing Options

3. Click Advanced

4. Click the Rebuild button

This will cause Outlook to rebuild its entire search index. This can take a long time to complete but you can continue to use Outlook and it will do this in the background.

This didn't work for me at all, still had to reload.

We had some users experiencing this problem too, just before we broke up for Summer.

Here is some info I found at the time, although we have not had the opportunity to try / test as yet...

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Outlook-known-issues-in-the-June-2017-security-updates-3f6dbffd-8505-492d-b19f-b3b89369ed9b

The issue appears to occur if (one of) the following update(s) had been applied:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4022722/windows-7-update-kb4022722

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4022719/windows-7-update-kb4022719

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3203467/descriptionofthesecurityupdateforoutlook2010june13,2017

The ‘fix’ is to apply the following update:
