The head teachers PC becomes very slow when using word 2013. After about 10-20 minutes the computer becomes unresponsive when using word 2013. The typing lags behind and clicking anything in word becomes slow and unresponsive. The rest of the computer slows down to a crawl.

The software installed on this PC is the same as any other PC in the School.

There is no other PC in the school that has this problem.

I have done the following to try and resolve the problem, but the problem still exists:

  • Reset profile – backup old profile and then create new profile
  • Reimage PC

Can anyone help?

Out of curiosity, if you run the PC in Safe Mode with Networking, is the issue still there?

This would point to a hardware issue if it were the case - possibly memory as a guess. Imaging uses a comparatively small amount of RAM (500MB), whereas Windows itself can easily use 2-3GB+ for a typical user.

Sorry I forgot to mention that we had the same problem with a previous computer with different hardware. I swapped out that PC with a new PC.

Do they have smart notebook software installed?

No smart notebook software has not been installed on the PC.

Update on this!

I checked the application logs in the event viewer and this event keeps appearing at least once a day. I don't know if it's related to the slow issues on Word 2013.

No other computer on the domain has this error appear in their application log in the event viewer.

I have applied hotfix KB2825683 that fixes the above problem and I am currently monitoring the application log to see if the problem has been fixed.
