Making messages appear on staff laptops

Hi all,

I'm sure i have seen a thread about this before, but I cant seem to find it. Have been tasked with making messages appear for all staff that they will likely want to change each week. I will probably get about 2 minutes notice or they will want to use it for announcements at the drop of a hat so preferably not something that uses GPO.

 

I'm guessing there is some free or fairly cheap software that will do the jobby.

Look at NetSupport Notify. It's UI is fairly simple which means you can hand control of messages to non-technical staff.

you could just drop a notepad file(or shortcut)/intranet shortcut in their start menu startup folder or a little less annoying do it via a script that records its been run once and dosent run every time

What about setting their browser startup page to an intranet page with all the information on it?

We use Winsent Messenger as our "emergency" messaging solution. Works well and licensing is based on the number of people sending messages, so if it's just you, or you and a couple of others it's really cheap.

Google Hangouts is good for this, and many staff have it on their phones too.

NetSupport Notify is another way of sending and tracking alerts and notifications.

 

It's really cheap but not free, so depending on needs, other options make sense too.

Thanks for all the replies, after speaking with the person organising this they decided that just added text to the wallpaper was actually fine. Will let you know if we trial anything else from the thread.

You can still use msg command line to send message prompts to PCs. Free and built in to Windows.
