Blue Screens

Hi All,

 

We have come in this morning to a number of workstations blue screening as the user logs in, eventually they get logged in but after a few minutes the workstation bluescreens again,

 

Checking the event logs and nothing,

 

Before I start delving through the Crash Dump files has anyone had this happen at their school recently and what was the outcome.

 

Could it be Malware of some sort?

 

Just seems strange

I have had it once before, many many years ago, where a certain AV product classes a crucial windows DLL has a piece of malicious software, it was display very similar behaviour to what you have here.

 

Just to check, there isn't a Windows Update schedule that runs over the weekend for you, and it has cause a part of the profile of the machine to not load correctly causing the BSOD is it?

I've got this issue today as well, Identified it as a AV issue.

No updates ran on weekend, they will run tonight, we currently use avast as our AV, it does seem to be happening all around the school now and we are stumped as to why its only happening randomly, will look into AV though

AVAST has big user login issues at the moment.

 

Its posted in a forum on this site and on the AVAST site.

Looks like it could very well be AV then. We do not use AVAST here so cannot say for sure but from the other two it does look like the likely cause.

Getting this at one site; all 3 use AVAST though!

 

Disabling Avast seems (so far) to have stopped the problem.

 

Event Viewer had nothing of note, just heading there for noon-ish to see if I can find any Avast logs that may help.

Seems our free offering of Avast does come with caveats hehe!

Thanks - W7 x32 do seem to be the only affected machines. Use W10 x64 + Comodo at home and been having similar symptoms (random hangs rather than blue screens) that cleared itself up over the weekend. Wonder if MS has pushed out something that's stumped the AV peeps.

Avast update with fix should be available any time now. Temp fix is to disable FileSystem shield.

Unfortunately for us W7 32bit is a major build for us due to budget restraints, we are deploying 64bit as we purchase the machines and hopefully we will be in a better position next Summer when we go W10

Heard murmurings about issues with windows updates hanging, running in background, and causing issues that eventually lead to blue screens. Not sure if this may be it.

Much the same at the school of mine that has been having problems. Pretty sure there are W7x32s at the school I'm due at tomorrow, but they haven't called...

 

At least the temporary fix was pretty easy. Just need to wait for the update.
