Blu-Ray Player Software

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been asked before & I've skipped over it!

I've been asked by out Media Studies dept to source a couple of Blu-Ray players to allow them to play movies. We had a couple of internal Blu-Ray drives kicking about that I've bought enclosures for but I've now run into the problem of software that will enable the Blu-Rays to play. The drives came with an old version of Cyberlink 7 that seems to be stuck in a loop looking for updates.

TL: DR have any of you guys come up against this issue before? What playback software do you use in school?

Windows 7 Ent only for the time being...

I had tried that but no joy. Everything I've found online seems to suggest needing to manually install the AACS files to allow this to work...further investigation needed I think...

I have got BluRay to play in VLC at home on W10, but like you said, I had to copy the AACS files into the correct places before it would do anything.

Yep - you're right there. Seems like it would be easy enough to script a copy of those files, though you may be on dubious legal ground. I guess last time I looked they were shipping it with those installed? I've just realised that my memories of testing BluRay playback at home were testing "off region" DVD playback!

I now use LEAWO Blu-ray Player at home after messing about with VLC. It's free and has played everything I've asked of it.

 

It doesn't always play the BD+ features and sometimes doesn't show any menus, just goes straight to the movie, but it works Not sure about the legal side of this though :/

Too much hassle and I don't think you get the menus either.

VLC can only play your Blurays when it finds a suitable key in KEYDB.cfg. The processing key in KEYDB.cfg only works up to MKBv31 and is not valid for discs released in the last 3 years or so (newest discs have MKBv64 I think). Recent discs that do play have a VUK key in KEYDB.cfg retrieved by other people.
